4 live action manga movies to watch in PH

MANILA – Fans of Japanese comics in the Philippines are in for a treat as four live action adaptations of popular manga are set to be screened in the country starting this Wednesday.

Mark your calendars as the following movies will be screened in selected cinemas, according to separate announcements by SM Cinema and Warner Bros. Philippines:

Black Butler

 

Directors: Kentaro Otani and Keiichi Sato

Cast: Hiro Mizushima, Ayame Goriki

Release date in the Philippines: Starting July 23 in SM cinemas nationwide

What it is about: “Black Butler” tells the story of a demonic butler named Sebastian (Mizushima), who is bound by a secret contract to serve his master, Kiyoharu (Goriki). In return for supporting his master’s mission, Sebastian will receive Kiyoharu’s soul.

Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno

Director: Keishi Otomo

Cast: Takeru Satoh, Tatsuya Fujiwara

Release date in the Philippines: August 20

What it is about: Part one of the sequel to the “Rurouni Kenshin” movie released in 2012, “Kyoto Inferno” covers the fan favorite Kyoto Arc where Kenshin Himura (Satoh) encounters the burnt and bandaged Makoto Shishio (Fujiwara) and the members of his elite group, Juppongatana.

Director: Keishi Otomo

Cast: Takeru Satoh, Tatsuya Fujiwara

Release date in the Philippines: September 24

What it is about: Part two of the sequel to the “Rurouni Kenshin” movie released in 2012, “The Legend Ends” concludes the showdown between Kenshin Himura and Makoto Shishio.

Lupin III

Director: Ryuhei Kitamura

Cast: Shun Oguri, Jerry Yan

Release date in the Philippines: To be determined, although SM Cinema already announced that it will definitely be screened in the Philippines

What it is about: Based on the popular manga and anime series of the same title, “Lupin III” follows the escapades of master thief Arsene Lupin III.
