MANILA, Philippines – NBN-ZTE whistleblower Jun Lozada and Maria Ressa, former head of ABS-CBN’s News and Current Affairs group, are part of the second production of Tanghalang Pilipino (TP) for its 26th season.
TP artistic director Nanding Josef made the announcement during a press conference for the company’s opening production, ”Walang Sugat,” which will run at the Cultural Center of the Philippines from August 9 to 26.
Josef said Lozada and Ressa have agreed to join Layeta Bucoy’s ”Walang Kukurap,” which he described as an ”anti-corruption advocacy play.”
”Sinuwerte po kami sa ’Walang Kukurap.’ Dalawang big personalities ang pumayag na sumali sa actors’ company. Ito po ay sina Maria Ressa at saka si Jun Lozada,” he said.
TP’s 26th season has the theme ”Truth and Consequence,” with four productions aimed at ”awakening the sense of pride of every Filipino audience about his roots and his love for his country.”
Aside from ”Walang Sugat” and ”Walang Kukurap,” other plays lined up include ”Stageshow” by the late Mario O’Hara and Rody Vera’s ”Ibalong,” a dance-theater musical interpretation of a Bicolano epic.
Lozada, an information technology expert, is known to the public as the star witness in the controversial NBN-ZTE scandal during the Arroyo administration.
Ressa, meanwhile, previously worked for the global news channel CNN before joining ABS-CBN.
