Experts warn the public that they should be extra careful when buying animal meat, especially as some unscrupulous businessmen mix meat from different animals.

Dr. Rolando Marquez of the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) explained that killing dogs for consumption is against the law.

Eating dog meat also poses health risks, especially if the dog is not healthy or well taken care of.

Experts added that unless one can distinguish different kinds of animal meat, it is better to just buy from accredited sellers.

It is also important for meat sellers to have a meat inspection certificate, and the meat to have a stamp of approval, to prove that what they are selling are safe and clean meat. -- Failon Ngayon, July 19, 2014
