12 big concerts to watch out for this year

MANILA – The first half of 2013 has been a great one for music fans here, with foreign acts such as Aerosmith, Deftones and Slash holding one-night concerts.

Early this month, Korean superstar Lee Min Ho also wowed his Filipino fans during his show at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

And all of these are just the tip of the iceberg. At least 12 more big concerts are set to be held in the Philippines during the second half of the year, from bands to pop acts and soft rock duos.

Here are some of them:

Killswitch Engage

  • Who: An American metalcore band known for the hit 2004 release "The End of Heartache."
  • When: July 31 (Wednesday), 8 p.m.
  • Where: Skydome, SM North EDSA

Pet Shop Boys

  • Who: Composed of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, the Pet Shop Boys are dubbed as the most successful duo in UK music history based on awards and record sales. Their hits include “West End Girls,” “It’s A Sin,” “Domino Dancing” and “Suburbia.”
  • When: August 6 (Tuesday), 8 p.m.
  • Where: Araneta Coliseum

Carly Rae Jepsen

  • Who: A Canadian recording artist, Carly Rae Jepsen is known for the hit song “Call Me Maybe.”
  • When: August 7 (Wednesday), 8 p.m.
  • Where: Araneta Coliseum

Fall Out Boy

  • Who: Composed of Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley, this American rock band is known for the hits “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down” and “Dance, Dance.”
  • When: August 8 (Thursday), 8 p.m.
  • Where: Araneta Coliseum

Linkin Park

  • Who: An American rock band composed of Chester Bennington, Rob Bourdon, Brad Delson, Dave Farrell, Joe Hahn and Mike Shinoda. Linkin Park is known in the Philippines for hits such as “One Step Closer,” “Crawling,” “Papercut” and “In the End,” which are all under the band’s debut album titled “Hybrid Theory.”
  • When: August 13 (Tuesday), 8 p.m.
  • Where: SM Mall of Asia Arena

Air Supply

  • Who: An Australian soft rock duo composed of Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock. Air Supply is known for the hits such as “All Out of Love,” Making Love Out of Nothing At All” and “Two Less Lonely People.”
  • When: August 13 (Tuesday), 8 p.m.
  • Where: Grand Ballroom, Solaire Resort and Casino


  • Who: An American rapper, songwriter and record producer known for the hits “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” and “On the Floor” with Jennifer Lopez, among others.
  • When: September 4 (Wednesday)
  • Where: SM Mall of Asia Arena

Tony Bennett

  • Who: A legendary Italian-American singer known for performing the songs “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” and “The Best is Yet to Come,” among others.
  • When: September 17 (Tuesday), 8 p.m.
  • Where: PICC Plenary Hall


  • Who: A Barbadian recording artist known for the hits “Umbrella, “Don’t Stop the Music,” “Disturbia” and “Love the Way You Lie,” among others.
  • When: September 19 (Thursday), 8 p.m.
  • Where: SM Mall of Asia Arena

The Killers

  • Who: An American rock band composed of Brandon Flowers, Dave Keuning, Mark Stoermer and Ronnie Vannucci Jr. The Killers rose to fame for the songs “Mr. Brightside,” “All These Things That I’ve Done,” “Somebody Told Me” and “Smile Like You Mean It.”
  • When: September 26 (Thursday), 8 p.m.
  • Where: Araneta Coliseum


  • Who: An American pop rock band that made radio history with the single “Apologize,” which received the largest amount of airplay at 10,331 times in one week.
  • When: November 6 (Wednesday), 8 p.m.
  • Where: Araneta Coliseum

Matchbox Twenty

  • Who: Led by Rob Thomas, Matchbox Twenty is known for hits such as “Push,” “3 a.m.,” “Bent,” “If You’re Gone” and “Unwell.”
  • When: November 8 (Friday)
  • Where: SM Mall of Asia Arena
