MANILA – Lea Salonga’s legacy as an international singer and actress has become the inspiration behind the latest collection of a luxury watch brand.

For the first time, watchmaker Philip Stein created a line of timepieces with one person as its muse.

Speaking during the launch of its latest collection at an exclusive concert at The Peninsula Manila last week, Philip Stein CEO and co-founder Will Stein said he thought he and Salonga were “tuned in to the same frequency.”

“I met Lea Salonga last year in October. Rina (Stein's wife) and I had the honor and pleasure to spend a day with her and her husband. It was a beautiful sunny day in Zurich, which we spent half by the lake and half in our office. Talking about frequency, I think we all were tuned in to the same frequency. It was such a natural and easy bond between us. I think this is reflected in the collaborative work between us and Lea,” he said.

Salonga, for her part, said she is truly grateful for the people who believe in her and share in her journey to create a lasting legacy.

“At this point in my life, it doesn’t feel like I gotta get to the top of Mt. Everest… it’s more like, going back to Everest again, and again… which is pretty darn cool. It’s about facing challenges head on, achieving something new, and always wanting to be the best in everything you do,” she said.

According to the Tony Award winner, being part of the Philip Stein family means a lot to her.

“We hope that these timepieces will serve as a beautiful reminder for you to never stop believing that you have what it takes to build on your legacy — everyday,” she said.

The Legacy Collection, along with the Lea Salonga Legacy Limited Edition watch, will be distributed exclusively first in the Philippines.

Only 222 pieces were made for the Lea Salonga Legacy Limited Edition watch to commemorate the singer’s birthday on February 22.
