‘Hero Face Off’ cosplay contest

Thousands of anime and video game fans are expected to gather at the SM Megatrade hall in Mandaluyong City this Saturday for the third installment of “Hero Face Off,” the cosplay contest of ABS-CBN anime channel Hero.
Registration will start at 10 a.m., while the program will commence at 2 p.m. The event is open to the public for free.
Aside from the cosplay contest, Hero will also hold a free screening of two big anime titles – “Gintama the Movie” and “Yu-Gi-Oh 3D Bonds Beyond Time.”
Winners of the “Hero Face Off” will be sent to the Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention.
Ballet Philippines’ ‘Songs’
Ballet Philippines opens its 43rd season with “Songs” which features Candice Adea and Jean Marc Cordero, who recently won awards at the 2012 Helsinki International Ballet Competition.
“Songs” will start tonight (Friday) at 6 p.m., and will run until Sunday, July 8. All shows will be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Main Theater.

‘How Do I Love Thee’ exhibit

Love Yourself Project, an advocacy group that aims to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country, is set to open a resource center to spread awareness about the disease this weekend.
The “Love Yourself Hub” will open on Sunday at 1850 Leon Guinto St. in Malate, Manila. It particularly targets the youth and members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
The new hub will conduct HIV counseling and testing with the support of the Research Institute for Topical Medicine. It will also have a fund-raising exhibit by Ian Felix Alquiros titled “How Do I Love Thee,” which features photographs of male torsos in black and white.

Zark’s Burgers, a restaurant in front of De La Salle University in Taft, Manila, will hold Part 1 of its seventh “Jawbreaker” event on Saturday.
Here, Zark’s will offer 1,500 of its “Jawbreaker” burgers with fries at iced tea at only P150 from its original price of P250. The sandwich contains spam, bacon, three burger patties, and cheese.
Those who will be able to finish the five-inch burger in five minutes or less can get it for free.

Sarah Geronimo’s ‘24/SG’
Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo is set to hold her birthday concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum this Saturday.
Billed as “24/SG,” the concert is expected to show a “bolder, stronger and braver” Geronimo as she turns 24 this month.

PBB’s ‘Teen Big Night’
“Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition” is set to hold its finale on Saturday at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center in Bulacan.
Dubbed the “Teen Big Night,” it will also be aired live on ABS-CBN Channel 2. “Two-in-one” twin housemates Joj and Jai Agpangan, Karen Reyes, Roy Requejo and Myrtle Sarrosa are vying for the Big Winner title.
The “Teen Big Night” will also feature former “Pinoy Big Brother” winners Kim Chiu and Slater Young, as well as ex-housemates Matt Evans, Aldred Gatchalian, Valerie Weigman, Linda Buckland, Devon Seron, Ivan Dorschner and Ryan Bang.
Kapamilya stars Daniel Padilla, JM de Guzman, Charee Pineda, Jessy Mendiola, Jewel Mische, Jake Cuenca and Iza Calzado will also be at the event.
Gerald on ‘MMK’

Drama Prince Gerald Anderson will return to TV screens this Saturday as he stars in an episode of ABS-CBN drama anthology "Maalaala Mo Kaya."
In "MMK," Anderson will once again show his acting chops as he plays the role of Jevon, who will do everything to seek justice for his family. This as an unfortunate incident killed his father and brother, and left his mother and other siblings traumatized and badly injured.
Joining Anderson in the episode are Irma Adlawan, Toby Alejar, Yogo Singh, Dindo Arroyo, Yulio Pisk, Carl John Barrameda, Andrei Garcia, Gigi Locsin, Mhyco Aquino, Allyzon Lualhati, and "Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition 4" ex-housemate Kit Thompson.
"MMK," the longest-running drama anthology in Asia, airs every Saturday night after "Wansapanataym" on ABS-CBN.
‘Rock of Ages’
"Rock of Ages” starring MiG Ayesa will have its last run this weekend at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium of RCBC Plaza in Makati City.
The Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical was brought to Manila by local theater company Atlantis Productions. It is a love story set against the backdrop of music, wild nights and the energy of the sunset strip in the 1980s.
Aside from Ayesa, other stars in “Rock of Ages” include Nyoy Volante, Calvin Millado and Vina Morales.
A movie adaptation of the musical starring Tom Cruise hit theaters last month.

Theater festival “Virgin Labfest” is now on its second week at the CCP Tanghalang Huseng Batute with 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. shows.
Now on its eighth year, the “Virgin Labfest” is known for its exciting and provocative lineup of one-act plays from young and experienced playwrights.
This weekend, the festival will feature two sets of plays. These are:
- “Pagsubli” by Aizel Cabilan, “Symposium” by U Eliserio and Maynard Manansala, and “Digital Divide” by Ricardo Novenario
- “Hayop” by Mar Anthony Dela Cruz, “Ang Unang Regla Ni John” by Em Mendez and “Isa Pang Soap Opera” by Reuel Molina Aguila
