MANILA – The Philippines’ dining scene continues to grow, as seen in the entry of several international brands over the past years.
The latest addition to the list is the American ice cream specialty shop Baskin-Robbins, which opened at the Bonifacio Global City early this week.
Restaurants from different parts of the world continue to set up shop here in the Philippines with the help of local partners. For the past six months of the year alone, at least 10 global restaurant brands have been launched in the country.
But will all of these businesses manage to survive, given the emergence of several promising homegrown food concepts? We’ll find out soon enough.

“Heavily inspired” by the popular US burger chain In-N-Out, CaliBurger also serves California-style burgers, fries and milkshakes. The restaurant opened its first branch at the new Century City mall in Makati last February. Its second outlet located along Timog Avenue in Quezon City welcomed customers two days later.

The popular Taiwanese fast food chain Hot Star Large Fried Chicken opened its first Philippine branch last February at the Blue Bay Walk along Macapagal Avenue, just a few minutes away from SM Mall of Asia.
Unlike the fried chicken kiosks found in Taiwan, Macau, Singapore, Hong Kong and other parts of the region, the Philippine branch looks more like a quick-service restaurant that comes with an express counter.

Marketed as the favorite fried chicken restaurant of Korean star Lee Min Ho, Kyochon opened at SM Megamall last May. The restaurant boasts of a casual dining ambience instead of the fast food-type atmosphere of some of its competitors in the country.

Two years since its successful launch in the Philippines, Magnum launched a café that revolves around the popular ice cream at the Sky Park of SM Aura Premier in Taguig.
Magnum Manila boasts of sleek, ultra-modern interiors designed by architect Ed Calma and custom-made artwork made from Magnum sticks.

This New York restaurant has been serving Neapolitan-style pizzas at Greenbelt 3 mall in Makati since May 2014. No less than the esteemed New York Times has hailed Motorino as having “the city’s best pizza.”
Here, guests can choose their own pizza toppings or select from the seven set flavors on the restaurant’s rather short menu.

Aimed at bringing fans “closer to NBA than ever before,” NBA Café opened its first branch in the Philippines at SM Aura Premier last April.
The café features dozens of NBA memorabilia, basketball textured upholstery and an array of food choices – from American bar and grill favorites to Asian-Filipino classics.

Several Filipinos continue to line up at the first Philippine outlet of Hong Kong’s critically acclaimed Tim Ho Wan at SM Mega Fashion Hall, which opened its doors to the public last May 20.
Billed as the “cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant in the world,” Tim Ho Wan serves mostly dim sum and other short-order dishes.

Todd English Food Hall

The group behind the successful Mesa chain of modern Filipino restaurants opened the first Philippine branch of Todd English Food Hall at SM Aura Premier last March.
The 900-square-meter restaurant boasts of nine live kitchens preparing a whole gamut of food, from salads to pizzas, pastas and grilled specialties.

A spin-off from Canada’s White Spot Restaurant, Triple O’s opened its first Philippine outlet at SM Megamall last June. The restaurant also has branches in China, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Triple O’s offers burgers, fried chicken and pasta in a typical fast food setup.

Wingstop, which has around 600 branches in the United States, Mexico, Russia and Singapore, has long been marketed as “the wing experts” for its different chicken wing flavors.
The US-based chain opened its first Philippine branch at the Regis Center in Katipunan in late May, attracting mostly students and residents in the area.
