MANILA, Philippines – President-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III is trending in Philippine fashion and pop culture these days, with his memorabilia abounding in the country ahead of his inauguration at the Quirino Grandstand on Wednesday.

Shirts, watches and pins have circulated, fueling the “Noynoy-mania” which is similar to President Barack Obama’s Obama mania. (Read: 'Noynoy-mania' hits Manila)

But a new limited edition collared shirt line is seeking to be more than just an addition to the “Noynoy-mania.”

Advocacy Beyond Borders, which aims to promote meaningful fashion and collective empowerment, recently launched the “P-NOY FIRST” shirt.

The shirt was created to advance the advocacy of supporting Aquino, whom the group claims is a “symbol of new change for the Filipino people.”

“The P-NOY FIRST shirt is a symbol of enlivened patriotism. Its quality also challenges the mindset that local branded items are not of good quality. More than anything else, the P-NOY First shirt will be a reminder for all of us that together, as a team and as a nation, we can help President Noynoy improve the lives of the 90 million Filipinos who deserve a new and better Philippines,” Advocacy Beyond Borders said in its website.

The collared shirt is available in black and white. It bears Aquino’s face and P-NOY nickname on the upper left corner of the shirt while the inauguration date “06|30|10” is on the right sleeve. The Advocacy Beyond Borders logo is placed at the back of the shirt.

Advocacy Beyond Borders CEO Harry Hawson revealed that the P-NOY FIRST project came to be because of their patriotism.

“We're not all Noynoy supporters but we all love our country,” he noted. “We're all quite young people who wanted to promote change. During elections, everyone saw how bad RP is, anong situation natin. We felt no matter what happens even if Noynoy wins, no one can change RP overnight. We were working with NGOs and minorities on how we can help.”

Hawson continued that they also wanted to put the spotlight on local fashion brands. He said the Advocacy Beyond Borders shirts are made in the Philippines out of local and eco-friendly materials.

“We're friends na nagkasama-sama to create a brand that's local and online-based. We wanna give choices to people. Not always buy Burberry or Lacoste, nakakasawa na. There's a big market of quality products pero local brands. We're offering free deliveries and it saves up on time sa traffic, gas,” he noted.

According to Advocacy Beyond Borders, a portion of the P-NOY FIRST shirt sales proceeds will be donated to Gawad Kalinga.

Aside from the commemorative P-NOY FIRST shirt, Advocacy Beyond Borders is also giving away a limited edition Republika LED pin courtesy of its partner company, Maverick By Design.
