Several netizens criticized Jolo Estrada for these Instagram posts under the username joloestrada17, which has since been made private.
MANILA – Manila Mayor and former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada defended his grandson over allegations of living a lavish lifestyle amid the pork barrel scam controversy.
This after several netizens compared Jolo Ejercito’s alleged Instagram posts – which showed him wearing Louis Vuitton shoes, staying in a presidential suite at the Manila Hotel, and riding a private jet – to that of Jeane Napoles, the daughter of alleged pork barrel mastermind Janet Lim Napoles.
Last year, Jeane caught the attention of Filipino Internet users after flaunting some of her pricey possessions, from a Porsche Boxter and a Ritz Carlton condominium to Hublot and Chanel watches.
In an interview with the entertainment website Pep.ph, Estrada shrugged off the accusations, saying Jolo can easily afford to buy Louis Vuitton shoes, citing his grandson’s projects as an actor.
“Sapatos lang ‘yan, e, kayang-kaya niyang mabili. Sapatos lang,” he said.
As for the Instagram photo showing Jolo in a private jet, the Manila Mayor said: “Wala, anong private jet? Kasiraan lang ‘yun… Tignan niyo, wala namang may eroplano sa amin, wala namang may helicopter.”
“Ako, nanghihiram lang.”
The actor’s uncle Jude Estrada, for his part, explained that Jolo’s stay at the presidential suite at the Manila Hotel was complimentary.
“Complimentary lang ‘yung stay na ‘yun for a night,” he said of the suite, which reportedly costs over P100,000 a night.
Jolo’s father is Senator Jinggoy Estrada, who has been detained for plunder over the pork barrel scam.
Pep.ph reported that Jolo is maintaining a different Instagram account, noting that the controversial photos may have been posted by a “hater.”
