MANILA – Social networking site Facebook is the most visited website and most used app by Filipino smartphone owners, a list compiled by global measurement company Nielsen shows.
ABS-CBN News is 10th and the only Philippine news site in the list of those frequently visited by Filipino smartphone owners.
Nielsen’s list, which covers April 2014, shows that Filipinos primarily visit social media sites, and others offering information and entertainment such as Facebook, Google, YouTube, Wikipedia, Twitter, Google Play, Yahoo Answers, and ABS-CBN News on their smartphones.
The list used panel data from Informate Mobile Intelligence in Southeast Asia.
Facebook commanded 70% share among users. Next are Google Search (68%), YouTube (26%), Google Blogger (22%), Wikipedia (17%), Smart (14%), Twitter (12%), Google Play (10%), Yahoo Answers (10%), and ABS-CBN News (10%).
Facebook also leads the list of apps used by smartphone owners, with 82% of users logging on. The Google Play Store is next (69%), followed by Google Search (52%), YouTube (45%), Viber (34%), Gmail (31%), Camera 360 (29%), Google Maps (29%), Skype (26%), and WeChat (25%).
A separate study conducted by Nielsen, published May 16, 2014, shows that Filipino teenagers on summer break consume more media than they usually would during school months.
The Philippines’ urban teens, Nielsen said, represent 25% of urban media consumers. While they consume primarily television and radio, they also access the internet on a daily basis, spending more time online, particularly on social media sites such as Facebook.
They also like to visit sites such as YouTube for content sharing, as well as Google, and Yahoo.
