CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines - The Divorce Bill is a hot topic among Filipinos as the country is the only one left in the world outside of the Vatican that does not recognize divorce.
But a Swiss man who has been living in the country for quite some time now said he is against divorce.
Thomas Kellenberger, founder of Philippine Island Kids International Foundation Inc., was only 5 years old when his parents divorced, as they were always fighting.
He admitted he and his sibling had a hard time adapting to the situation.
"I was so sad," said Kellenberger, who stays in Cagayan de Oro City.
Kellenberger grew up in the custody of his mother. His father would often pick him up so they could go out and spend time together.
Although his parents tried their best to meet their children's needs, Kellenberger could not help but be envious of other children who had a complete happy family.
Divorce is not easy, he said.
"If you really loved your partner once and you don't have that feeling anymore, try to get it back. Try to work it out for the sake of your family," said Kellenberger, who put up the Philippine Island Kids International Foundation Inc. to help children in need. -- Report from Maricel Butardo, ABS-CBN News
