MANILA, Philippines – With the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona over, the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) greets its viewers with new afternoon programs.
Starting next week, ANC will air 30-minute newscasts titled “News Now” at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Ron Cruz of “Mornings@ANC” will take over the 2 p.m. newscast, which will present national and foreign news.
ANC business news head Coco Alcuaz, on the other hand, will be covering mainly business stories at 3 p.m., when trading at the Philippine Stock Exchange is about to close.
“We’d like to add more business news [to ‘News Now’],” Alcuaz said in a press conference for the new ANC programs on Wednesday.
Aside from “News Now,” Alcuaz will also have a business program titled “Inside Business,” which will air at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
For his part, Cruz said: “We’ll cover press conferences and other events to get the reactions of all parties immediately.”
Completing the cast of “News Now” are Boyet Sison, who will present hourly weather updates; and Lexi Schulze, who will report about trends in social media.
Another new ANC show is “The Bureau,” which gathers news from ABS-CBN’s offices across the globe.
Anchor Karmina Constantino described her new program as “global news with a nationalist perspective.”
Recognizing the power of social media, ANC has also launched a new program titled “@ANCALERTS,” the same name of the news channel’s official Twitter account.
The show’s hosts, Schulze and TJ Manotoc, said “@ANCALERTS” will present the latest buzz in social media via a live telecast.
“It’s almost like a newscast, but a lighter one,” Schulze said. “There’s always an interaction with our viewers.”
Manotoc, for his part, said: “It will be live and interactive, fresh and up-to-date so those who are not online at the time can get an idea about what’s trending.”
With the new program lineup, ANC has also revamped its old shows by changing formats and hosts.
Since Schulze will be hosting “@ANCALERTS,” she will be replaced by model and entertainment reporter Phoemela Baranda on the lifestyle show “Cityscape,” which airs on Fridays at 9:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, ANC said it has “revitalized” its 30-minute science and technology show “Future Perfect,” which is hosted by Tony Velasquez. It will air at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
