MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) -- Senator Lito Lapid became a global top trending topic on social media site Twitter because of his speech explaining his guilty verdict on impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona on Tuesday afternoon.
"Picha pie," a phrase he used in his speech describing how Corona tried to explain his assets, was the second global trending topic.
Leon Guerrero and Julio Valiente, movie characters that Lapid played in movies, were also among the top trending topics on Twitter.
ABS-CBNNews.com's social media hashtag, #CJontrial, also returned to the list of the global trending topics after hitting the top spot a few days earlier.
It also trended top in the Philippines during the peak of Twitter discussions when a conviction ruling gain momentum.
A total of 24,626 people were in the ABS-CBNNews.com's live chat at one moment on Tuesday.
In his speech, Lapid admitted that he only finished high school and represented the poor and unlearned sector of society in casting his vote on Corona's trial.
Ano kayang magiging desisyon?" he asked.
Lapid said he was convinced of Corona's guilt on Article 2 of the impeachment complaint, based on Rep.
