They say you should be comfortable in your own skin. But how do you do that exactly? Read on for celebrity secrets, home remedies and other tips to achieve your dream beautiful, glowing skin.
Recently, I received private queries from people asking for some beauty tips on how to achieve beautiful skin. And by skin, we mean everything from face and neck, to knees, underarms and elbows.
Truthfully, there is no one answer to this because as with our problems with weight and money, the answer lies more about being consistent with our regimen and solutions. In other words, there is no one-time only magic pill that we can take to miraculously solve our problems. But aside from good hygiene, there are some things we can do.
1. Get enough sleep
A good night’s sleep is the cheapest and easiest way to achieve glowing, beautiful skin. But it is easier said than done. If you are working odd hours, let’s say in the BPO industry, make an effort to adjust your schedule to achieve uninterrupted deep sleep. Ask your doctor about melatonin supplements to aid your sleep.
2. Avoid eating food that cause you to break out
Every person has unique body chemistry. Many people, including myself, break out from oily food, chocolates and peanuts. Be observant on what you are taking in and if it causes you to break out and avoid them at all costs.
3. Avoid the triple threat: smoking, sugar and alcohol
We are all addicted to something. For most of us, we are addicted to either or all of the above. If we cannot drop these addictions completely, we should at least try to significantly limit our intake. Smoking, sugar and alcohol are known factors that cause premature aging and dull our skin.
4. Apply SPF
Most Filipinos, especially morenas, tend to overlook this part, thinking they don’t need sunblock because they are okay with getting dark. The color of your skin is beside the point. What is important is we avoid getting too much sun exposure which can harm our skin and hasten the aging process. To prevent age spots and wrinkles, always apply SPF, especially on your hands and neck because these areas can really give away our age.
5. Marc Logan says: Take apple cider vinegar
Just last month, I was sitting in the makeup room with TV Patrol’s Marc Logan and was in awe at his young and fresh skin. No kidding. I asked for his secret and he gladly shared that he takes apple cider vinegar every morning and before going to sleep.
Two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, mixed with a glass of water (or maybe fresh fruit juice, if you wish) then add a little bit of honey. Take twice a day for beautiful skin. The same concoction is supposedly good for weight loss as well.
6. Calamansi to address your dark secrets
A good friend of mine does this everyday of her life and has super fair elbows, knees and underarms. Go panic-buying for calamansi at your local grocery. (Or better yet, maybe you should just plant your own calamansi shrub). Squeeze the every drop out of the calamansi and store the pure juice in a bottle inside the ref. Every day, before you shower, apply on affected dark areas and leave for two to three minutes. Then rinse. Do this habitually and you will see the effects in the long run.
7. Unlimited facial and diamond peel
