MANILA -- Good times do fly fast as TGIFriday’s celebrates its 20th year in the Philippines.

To mark the occasion, TGIFriday’s pioneering branch at Glorietta 3 in Makati updated its interiors with a fresh modern look. Gone are the Tiffany lamps and seats; today’s TGIF features modern red droplights, pendant lights, wooden chairs and leather seats.

It also features c-shaped couches and community seats to promote bonding, popular among the youth.

The new TGIF also features a “Heritage Wall” with photographs and article clippings about TGIFriday’s history and the story of their founder, Alan Stillman. The first TGIFriday’s branch opened its doors in New York, City in 1965 and has since grown into a strong global brand with almost a thousand stores worldwide.

You can find interesting tidbits about the first TGIFriday’s, including finding out that it was the first “singles bar” among others.

Art seems to play a big part on the redecoration with a dedicated “Graphic or Art Wall” featuring art inspired by TGIFriday’s.

A focal art piece in the restaurant is the New York skyline painted on a series of baseball bats. A nod to how America loves baseball, and the origins of TGIFriday’s.

As you enter, two things greet you. One is a bright red wall called “the Promise Wall” with the words---“In here, it’s always Friday.”

The other is the newly-redesigned TGIFriday’s bar, with a much bigger area, the bar is perfect for a bartending show, such as the show that we were treated to by Rev “The Revolution” Bascano, the head bartender. He won second runner up in the World Bar Bartender Championship held last February in Dallas, Texas.

New promos, items

Staying true to their commitment to serve good food, TGIFriday’s also launched its Friday’s Lunch Promo. Starting Monday, May 12, guests can enjoy the lunch plates like the Grilled Chop in Shitake Cream Sauce, with tender and earthly pork served with rice pilaf and summer coleslaw.

Or if you’re looking for something with a bit of spice, the Jalapeno Mushroom Stuffed Chicken, crispy chicken breast stuffed with mushrooms, jalapeno and mozzarella cheese, may be more your thing.

Burger lovers will love the new “Stackers Burgers,” which will be available on May 19. A new experience awaits you with the Texas Chili Cheese Burger, which combines the good stuff in a bowl of chili like beef, cheese, beans and even some nacho strips with the TGIF juicy burgers.

Bacon aficionados will be more than happy with the Cheesy Bacon Cheeseburger, a juicy cheeseburger with a large heaping of bacon.

Despite the new TGIFriday’s more contemporary image, fans of the restaurant need not worry. Guia Abuel, the vice president of operations of the Bistro Group assures that the restaurant's main promise of "good food and great times" remains.

“TGIFriday's has changed with the times to cater to the next generation guests but we carry on with a desire to keep our regulars coming by giving them no less than what they deserve: good food and great times. After all, whatever day of the week, in here, it’s always Fridays,” she said.
