MANILA, Philippines – Got no plans yet for your moms on Mother’s Day this Sunday, May 13?

Here are some activities and gift ideas that may help you get started.

Cakes and pastries

Cakes, breads and pastries are popular choices when it comes to Mother’s Day gifts.

One of those offering specialty pastries all year round is Aristocrat Bakeshop, which is known for treats such as Torta delos Reyes, or six layers of wafers and nutty butter cream with chocolate ganache.

Other items sold here include Choco Supreme, a six-layer chocolate cake with chocolate filling, icing and chocolate flowers; Tea Ensaimada, sweet bite-size ensaymada balls rolled in cheese shavings; Malolos Ensaimada, a bigger version of ensaymada topped with salted egg and cheese shavings; and Cheese Roll, or home-baked bread stuffed with cheese; sylvana, and sans rival.

For mothers who do not like breads and pastries, you may opt for another sweet treat – chocolates.

One of the more popular chocolate brands, Toblerone, is offering its products in limited edition Mother’s Day packages.

It is also giving customers an opportunity to tell the world how much they love their mothers through an online photo contest, with prizes including Toblerone bars and overnight accommodations at hotels like Edsa Shangri-La and Hotel H20.

The promo, which will run until May 18, requires customers to like the Toblerone Pilipinas Facebook page and uploading their “sweetest” photo with their mom.

The photos will be judged according to the caption and the number of “likes” received on Facebook.

Café-style drinks

Some moms may like the idea of having café-style drinks at home with a coffee machine, such as Nescafe’s Dolce Gusto.

Using pre-made coffee and iced tea capsules, the machine lets owners get an instant caffeine fix.

From May 11 to 13, a Dolce Gusto booth at the lobby of Greenbelt 3 mall in Makati City will treat mothers and the whole family to free coffee.

Bonding over Bikram yoga

Those who have fitness buffs as moms may want to try a Bikram yoga session, which is held in a room heated up to 40 degrees Celsius.

The 90-minute session brings together focus and relaxation, according to Ginger Diaz, studio director of Bikram Yoga Alabang.

Starting this weekend, Bikram Yoga Alabang is treating moms to free classes and the amenities of its state-of-the-art facilities managed by professional staff.

Bikram Yoga Alabang is located at the second floor of Commerce Center, Commerce Avenue in Filinvest, Alabang, Muntinlupa City. Interested moms must register a day before the class by calling (02) 846-5496 or visiting www.bikramyogaalabang.com.

Cards and quotes

Those who have a limited budget, meanwhile, may opt to make Mother’s Day cards and gifts from colored paper and other art materials.

Google Philippines noted that homemade gifts remain popular among Filipinos, with searches for Mother’s Day quotes and cards rising over the past days.

Other top searches for the week include pricier items such as flowers, cakes, desserts and jewelry.

Most searched Mother’s Day destinations, meanwhile, include restaurants such as Sugarhouse, Sambo Kojin, Brasserie Cicou, Buffet 101 and Hard Rock Café Makati.
