Ex-‘Mara Clara’ star is Miss Bikini PH runner-up
MANILA, Philippines – A former cast member of the “Mara Clara” remake won second runner-up in the recently held Miss Bikini Philippines 2012 pageant.
Vangie Martelle played the role of Abby, one of the best friends of Clara (portrayed by Julia Montes) in the defunct ABS-CBN series.
Martelle, 17, said she joined Miss Bikini Philippines to find out what else she can do aside from acting.
“I was thinking of joining a pageant after ‘Mara Clara.’ I wanted to know what else I can do aside from acting,” she said in an interview on “[email protected]” on Thursday.
“Well, many suggested that I join pageants because of my height. So I tried it,” she added.
Abbygale Monderin, 19, won the Miss Bikini Philippines 2012 pageant, and is set to represent the country in the Miss Bikini International pageant to be held in China on August 28.
“I’m thankful for my parents for pushing me to join pageants. Now, hindi ako magsisisi because I’m here and I won this crown. Now, I can say this is my time to shine,” Monderin said.
Lian Ricafort, on the other hand, won first runner-up.
Asked about their secrets to a bikini-ready figure, Ricafort said: “Work out, eat healthy food, and have a healthy lifestyle.”
Gracee Lopez, who won Miss Great Skin in the pageant, for her part, said: “Have your beauty regimen, know about personal hygiene… Skin check, treatments like body scrubs and facials really help a lot.”
Lopez also gave a message to those who see swimsuit competitions as a way of objectifying women.
“We’re here to inspire people to live healthy, to be beautiful… We showed ourselves professionally. Even if we wore our bikinis, I believe we still looked respectable,” she said.
Miss Bikini Philippines 2012 will be aired on Studio 23 on May 17 at 10:30 p.m.
