MASBATE, Philippines – Masbate has long been dubbed as the Philippines’ cattle country with its large tracts of grazing land.

Every summer, tourists flock to the province for the annual Rodeo Festival, where cowboys and cowgirls from different parts of the country participate in several action-packed competitions, from cattle wrestling to bullriding.

However, there is more to Masbate than its numerous cows – it is also blessed with beautiful white sand beaches, abundant seafood and friendly people. There is plenty of room for improvement when it comes to roads and other infrastructure, but some travelers may find these imperfections charming.

Masbate can be reached by plane from Manila, with two domestic airlines plying the route daily. Accommodations can be found all over the city, with some offering boat rides to nearby islands to groups for a small fee.
