7 bands to watch out for in Wanderland 2014

MANILA -- The much awaited second installment of the Wanderland Music and Arts Festival will be held on May 17, once again at the Globe Circuit Events Grounds in Makati.

Get to know seven of the bands that will be performing in the event:

1. The Drums

The Drums, a band from Brooklyn, New York, are the headliners of this year’s festival. Known for its “80s surfy music,” they were No. 5 on the BBC Sound of 2010 list, and were hailed as the band to look out for in various magazines, including being the Best Hope for 2010 in Pitchfork Media’s 2009 Readers Poll. The song, "Days," is included in their second album called
"Portamento," released in 2011.

2. Architecture in Helsinki

With five studio albums to their name and with their latest album, "Now + 4EVA: released last March 18, this Australian band is a regular in the international festival circuit—having appeared in Coachella and SxSW, among others. "Contact High" is from their fourth album, "Moment Bends," their highest debuting album to date.

3. The Last Dinosaurs

The Last Dinosaurs is another Australian act known for fast-paced power pop-rock, as well as having a majority of its members be of Japanese descent. "Zoom" is from their critically praised studio album, "In A Million Years," released in 2012.

4. The Royal Concept

Wanderland guests will be dancing to the music of The Royal Concept. With their synth pop songs, such as "On Our Way" from their debut album, "Goldrushed," leading the way. The song, "On Our Way," has been included in EA Sports’ FIFA 14 and was covered by "Glee" in Season 5.

5. The Paper Kites

The Paper Kites are commonly characterized as a “folk or rock-folk” band, but they’ve been known to travel to different genres occasionally. If you listen to their song, "Young," you’ll understand. Their debut album, "States," was released last year.

6. Franco

Leading the local contingent in Wanderland is Franco. Previously an OPM supergroup, Franco has turned into the solo act of Franco Reyes. He released “Soul Adventurer” last year, which includes the song, "Better Days," which won an Awit Award for Best Alternative Recording.

7. Techy Romantics

Chillectro OPM is what the Techy Romantics is all about. The band will have you grooving and dancing to tracks like "Escape," from their sophomore album of the same name.

Unlike the previous two-tier ticket scheme, festival tickets are now priced at P4,800, which will be available at an early bird rate of only P3,000 via SM Tickets and Ticketnet until April 26. Discounted tickets will also be available at the “River Island Takes You to Wanderland” event on April 12.
