Food shorts: Summer eats and drinks

MANILA, Philippines - It's summer! Instead of cutting carbs to look good in that bikini, why not use this time to savor good food and drink?

Here are some offers by restaurants and companies across the metro.

Rice-stuffed bell peppers are part of Restaurant 5's Greek-themed weekday buffet.

Greek weekdays at Restaurant 5

Restaurant 5, the casual family dining place of Discovery Suites in Pasig City, is offering a Greek-themed weekday buffet which includes appetizers, salads, soup, carving stations, hot dishes, and desserts.

Some of the Greece dishes in the spread are green bean salad with spiced seared tuna, hummus with pita bread, souvlaki (beef and chicken skewers with red and green bell peppers), moussaka (beef, eggplant and potatoes with béchamel sauce), domatokeftedes (tomato fritters with white bean dip), baklava, and milotopia (Greek apple pie).

The Greek buffet is available from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at P795+ per person. Restaurant 5 also offers cuisines from China, Italy, Japan, Spain, Thailand, Korea, and the Philippines.

South Asian Mondays at Circles

Circles Event Café, the buffet restaurant of Makati Shangri-La hotel, is featuring South Asian flavors every Monday of the month.

Executive sous chef Hamed Ghayedi, serves dishes such as Levantine salads tabouleh and fatoush, Moroccan lamb soup, and chicken shawarma, among others.

For the rest of the week, Circles Event Café offers Italian (Tuesday), Filipino (Wednesday), Indian (Thursday), seafood (Friday), and barbecued favorites (Saturday).

On Sunday, the restaurant serves a buffet brunch.

Chinese Sunday brunch at Li Li

Li Li, the Chinese restaurant of Hyatt Hotel, is offering different types of dim sum for brunch every Sunday, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Among the dishes served in the restaurant are wok-fried radish cake, crispy onion pancake, chicken in simmered soya sauce, barbecued pork belly, wok-fried rice with roasted pork, stir-fried vegetables in garlic, and a roast and barbecue carving station.

For dessert, Li Li offers almond cream with glutinous dumpling and chilled mango cream with sago.

The meal is priced at P1,550 net per person, and includes free-flowing iced tea, soft drinks and local beer.

Italian meals at Café d’ Asie

Café d’ Asie, a restaurant of Bellevue hotel in Alabang, will hold an Italian food festival from April 26 to 30.

Dubbed “I Love Italy,” the food festival will feature dishes from 20 regions of Italy. Among them are risotto from Lombardy, pizza from Sicilia, and formaggio from the cheese capital of Piedmonte.

Other dishes include pasta, prosciutto di parma, carpaccio, panacetta, insalata, panna cotta, cioccolato, gelato and tiramisu.

The Italian buffet is available for lunch and dinner, and is priced at P1,390 net per person.

Summer drinks with Dolce Gusto

For those who are too lazy to stir, shake or use a blender, a new machine by Nescafe creates refreshments and hot drinks with the flip of a lever.

The Dolce Gusto machine instantly creates café-style drinks using pre-made coffee and iced tea capsules.

Aside from its newest variant, peach iced tea, other flavors include cappuccino, chai tea latte, espresso, mocha, latte machiatto and house blend, among others.
