Gerard Salonga to lead ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra

MANILA, Philippines – Musical director Gerard Salonga, brother of Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, will lead the soon-to-be-created philharmonic orchestra of ABS-CBN.

“ABS-CBN Corp. and First Philippine Holdings Corp. are pleased to announce auditions for various musician positions to form the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra under the music direction of Mr. Gerard Salonga,” ABS-CBN said in a statement.

Auditions will be held from April 23 to 27 at the Dolphy Theater of ABS-CBN in Quezon City.

Interested and qualified musicians may apply for the following positions:

  • concertmaster
  • assistant concertmaster
  • assistant principal second violin
  • tutti violin (first and second)
  • assistant principal viola
  • assistant principal cello
  • tutti cello
  • assistant principal double bass
  • assistant principal flute
  • assistant principal oboe
  • assistant principal bassoon
  • assistant principal trumpet
  • third trumpet (six-month position)

They are expected to complete an application form, which can be downloaded at the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra blog, and to perform the required orchestral excerpts during the audition.
