How 'Biggest Loser' contestants sneaked in banned items
MANILA - "Nakakapanghinayang".
This was the word used by host-actress Iza Calzado to describe the controversial cheating incident that marred the reality television series "Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles."
On an episode aired April 5, four contestants--brothers Ralph and Christian Du, Cathy Bautista and Patrizha Matrinez--confessed to have brought cigarettes, junk food, and slimming tea to help them lose weight.
All four then apologized to their fellow contestants and voluntarily dropped out of the competition.
Speaking on "Aquino & Abunda Tonight" on Thursday, Calzado explained how the cheating possibly happened and expressed her dismay over the dishonesty displayed by the four contestants.
"Sa season kasi na ito, nagkaroon kami ng mid-season break. Lahat ng contestants, lumabas ng camp. Pagbalik sinearch naman ng gamit nila pero I guess, hindi naman every sulok nakita, may mga nakalusot," she told hosts Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino.
"Hindi ko na alam talaga pero may nagpasaring ata, at dahil doon, namulat ang mata ng produksyon at nagsimula silang mag-imbestiga."
Calzado also revealed that the current format allows the contestants to jog outside the "Biggest Loser" camp, as the compound lacks the necessary gym equipment and space for contestants to work out.
The 31-year-old explained that this could have led to the contestants buying the prohibited items outside and sneaking them back inside the camp.
Calzado said other hosts, along with the "Biggest Loser" coaches Toni and Jim Saret, were heavily disappointed as all of them saw the four as frontrunners for the competition.
"They [the coaches] felt that they were losing four children, na inalagaan nila, making sure na maging malakas sila," she said. "Sayang."
"Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles" airs every week nights after "Aquino & Abunda Tonight."
