MANILA - What do actor Xian Lim, Bogart the Explorer, and Julia Barretto have in common?
They're all part of YouTube Philippines' top 10 online ads in the country for the first of quarter of 2014.
The list, which was announced on Tuesday, features 7 local and 3 internationally made advertisements, with telecommunications company Globe grabbing the top spot for months January through March.
Google Philippines head of marketing Ryan Morales, in a statement, said local celebrities such as the three earlier mentioned -- and matched with an interesting idea -- managed to captivate Philippine viewers.
"Filipinos are very much capable of creating relevant online content,” said Morales. "After all, Filipino creative content has dominated YouTube time and again."
Here are the top 10 online ads, according to YouTube's Ads Leaderboard for the Philippines:
10. Urban Discovery from Ford Asia Pacific
This mock trailer video from car company Ford stars two of the most locally popular personalities on the internet as of the moment -- Bogart the Explorer and Petra Mahalimuyak. The nearly three-minute clip features action, comedy, and romance.
9. Make Love, Not War from AXE
Originally marking its debut during this year's Super Bowl, this latest commercial from AXE went viral with almost 7 million views as of writing. The ad features fictional heads of states and soldiers setting aside their weapons for women.
8. MILO 50th Year "The Call" from Nestle Philippines
In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Milo kept true to its colors, literally. Sporting the trademark green of the brand, the ad features athletes Chris Tiu and Rio dela Cruz, alongside the likes of Kiefer Ravena and brothers Jeron and Jeric Teng.
7. Hidden camera prank from Head & Shoulders Philippines
With the recent surge in popularity of prank and hidden camera videos, it is no surprise that another company attempted to imitate the tried and tested formula. And with almost 1.5 million views on YouTube, Head & Shoulders Philippines and Ramon Bautista seem to have proven that the formula is showing no signs of slowing down.
6. Dare To Be Instant Fair from Vaseline
In this short ad, Vaseline showcases the company's latest product in action, with brand ambassador Maxene Magalona asking random women to try it out.
5. Magnum Gold?! in The Philippines
One of the more high-budget ads to come out this year, Dutch-based Unilever tapped American film director Bryan Singer, Academy Award winner Benicio del Toro, and Brazilian supermodel Caroline Correa for the clip advertising their latest ice cream flavor.
4. World's First Bendable TV Samsung @ CES 2014
This short, no-nonsense ad from South Korea-based company Samsung teases the world's first bendable TV. It highlights most of the TV's stand out features through simple exposition and video shots.
3. #GetEnergized With The New Pond's Men!
Actor Xian Lim stars in this frenetic 30-second clip that jumps from one scene to another in quick successions. The video has almost one million views as of writing and perhaps the best example among the list of Morales' point on the capability of celebrity endorsers to attract even online viewers.
2. Fade Pimple Marks with the new Pond's White Beauty
Pond's takes another spot in the top ten, sticking to their use of celebrity endorsers. In this ad, "Mirabella" star Julia Barretto tests out the company's latest product. The video, similar to Lim's Pond's video, has almost one million views as of writing.
1. Globe: Creating a Wonderful World
The top spot goes to Globe and its upbeat ad. It features a catchy tune and a fully animated sequence of rockets, flowers and fireworks. It has reached more than one million views as of writing.
