MANILA - Theater veteran Leo Valdez will lead the cast of the local staging of "Priscilla: Queen of the Desert," which promises a spectacle and an inspiring story when it opens next month.
The musical, which was adapted from the 1994 film "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert," will start its run on May 9 at Resorts World Manila's Newport Performing Arts Theater in Pasay City.
Valdez will be joined by Jon Santos and Red Concepcion as drag queens who encounter various people while on the road aboard a tour bus they have named "Priscilla."
The cast members of the local production also include Bituin Escalante, Lani Ligot, Timmy Canlas, Pinky Marquez, Michael Williams, and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo.
The story of "Priscilla," as in the original 2006 musical which opened on Broadway five years later, will unfold with well-loved pop tunes such as "Say A Little Prayer," "Boogie Wonderland," "It's Raining Men," and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun."
During a recent press preview of Resorts World's "Prsicilla," the cast performed several numbers from the play, including "I Will Survive."
