Playboy model wears lettuce in ad vs meat

MANILA, Philippines – An Australian model has swapped lingerie for lettuce leaves to help the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in its campaign against animal cruelty this Easter Sunday.

Wearing a bikini and bunny ears made of lettuce leaves, Playboy and cover model Sheridyn Fisher called on the public to stop eating meat in PETA’s latest ad, which had the caption: “Be a Bunny’s Honey. Go Vegetarian.”

A bunny bringing colored eggs and candy to children has become a popular symbol of Easter.

Playboy, an American men’s magazine known for its photographs of nude women, also uses a bunny for its logo.

“Easter is the perfect time to help bunnies and pigs, chickens, cows and other animals simply by choosing not to eat them,” Fisher said in a statement.

“Vegetarian meals are healthy, humane and helpful to the environment, so they’re something every bunny can enjoy,” she added.

PETA claims that vegetarians are “fitter and trimmer, on average, than meat eaters are,” and that they have a lower risk of getting heart attack, cancer, stroke and obesity.

“And vegetarian diets are good for the environment, too. Researchers at the University of Chicago concluded that switching from a standard meat-based diet to one free of animal products is more effective in the fight against climate change than changing from an ordinary car to a hybrid,” the group said.

Fisher is known for appearing on the covers of magazines such as Playboy, FHM, Cleo, Girlfriend and Cosmopolitan.

She has her own line of swimsuits called Sheridyn Swim.

Aside from Fisher, other celebrities who have supported PETA’s vegetarianism campaign include Pink, Lea Michele, Pamela Anderson, and Paul McCartney.

Local stars, meanwhile, include Geneva Cruz, Isabel Roces and Yasmien Kurdi.
