MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Halalan 2013 mobile application has just been updated for the start of the campaign period for the local elections.
Version 2.5 of the application for Android devices and version 2.1 for Windows phones were released to coincide with the start of campaigning for local posts March 30.
With this update, users may now tick their choices for governor, vice governor, mayor and vice mayor in the "My Ballot" feature of the app. This feature may also be used if the user wants to draft his or her choices for the 12 Senate seats and party-list organization.
The application also offers a bevy of other services such as the "News" section, which allows users to access election-related news produced by ABS-CBNNews.com.
The application also encourages users to become citizen journalists through its "Bayan Mo i-Patrol Mo" section, which accepts user-generated election reports in the form of photos or videos.
Another interesting feature of the application is the "My Status" section, which enables users to check their updated voter registration information.
Users can also view the profiles of the senatorial candidates, as well as a slew of infographics aimed at educating voters in its "Halalan 101" section.
The Comelec app, made in partnership with ABS-CBN, was launched in October 2012 as part of ABS-CBN News’ advocacy to help voters make informed choices for Halalan 2013. It is also in recognition of the growing mobile community in the Philippines.
The app, the first of its kind in the Philippines, is also available on Apple's iOS platform.
