MANILA, Philippines - The night of March 3, a Thursday, was a sad one for avid fans of ABS-CBN's remake of the Mara Clara series.
In the said episode, Mara del Valle (Kathryn Bernardo) appeared to have died in an explosion, causing Clara David (Julia Montes) and the rest of the cast to cry hysterically until the credits roll.
Naturally, such a scene would make anyone teary-eyed. A video posted on YouTube last Friday, however, showed that some people may have gone a bit too far.
Here, a little girl who seemed deeply affected by Mara's "death" started to cry hard, calling out her name for almost 4 minutes while facing the television.
She then approached her sister, who was recording the video, and cried even harder.
"She cried [because] she thought that Mara died. HAHAHAHA super nakakatawa! LOL," the sister, user happyyna19, wrote on her YouTube page.
She continued, "I explained to my sister na hindi namatay si Mara...You can hear me saying sa huli na 'Hindi namatay si Mara. Bida 'yun eh.'"
In a span of 3 days, the video received more than 476,000 hits.
It has also been shared in several social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
Most of the netizens who left comments on the YouTube clip felt sorry for the girl, saying that the older sister should not have uploaded the video.
"Concerned lang talaga ako sa kapatid mo. Kasi pwede siyang ma-bully sa school or kapitbahay dahil sa ginagawa mong post ng videong ito. Nakakatawa siyang tignan. Kaya mo bang makitang palaging pinagtatawanan ang kapatid mo," one of them said.
Another quipped, "A good sister would not want her little sister falling apart. She should explain it's just television, instead of making a video just to make fun of her own blood in YouTube."
"This should not be uploaded. She makes her little sister [look] funny in front of thousands of viewers," another user said.
This YouTube user said, "Don't post this kind of video especially she's your sister. This might hurt her later. You just don't know what you've done to your sister."
Others, meanwhile, found the video cute and funny.
"Haha cute ng sis mo. Talagang naapektuhan [siya]. Haha cute," one user said.
Another said, "Malakas pa rin ang dating ng Mara Clara sa panahon ngayon! Apektado [nang] bonggang bongga si little sister."
"Paki-video ulit siya sa scene na buhay pala si Mara ha!" another commented.
Aired from August 17, 1992 to February 14, 1997 on ABS-CBN, the original Mara Clara series is the longest and one of the highest-rated soap operas in the history of Philippine television.
The show also paved the way for the success of actresses Judy Ann Santos (Mara) and Gladys Reyes (Clara).
The remake, starring Bernardo and Montes, premiered on October 25, 2010 on ABS-CBN.
Since then, the show has been getting rave reviews and impressive ratings.
