MANILA – The international restaurant chain TGIFriday’s has added some heat to its classic all-American menu with a bunch of new Tex-mex dishes.

The new dishes were introduced to the media last week at the popular chain's new Makati restaurant at Greenbelt 3 (taking over the spot previously occupied by National Sports Grill).

To start, the Chilli Ballpark Nachos, available for sharing (P650) or for single serving (P395), hits it out of the park with a big mound of deep fried tortilla chips, covered with a rich cheese sauce, chilli, pico de gallo and fresh salsa on the side.

Another appetizer alternative is the Friday’s Tostada Nachos (P495). The Tex-Mex version of a “toast” is a fully loaded nacho chip with seasoned ground beef, melted cheese, topped with spicy jalapenos with salsa and cream. Perfect if one wants all the nacho toppings in a single bite.

A healthy alternative to the Tex-Mex favorite, the quesadilla, Friday’s Smoked Salmon Quesadillas (P345) combines smoked salmon with tart apples, Monterey Jack cheese, fresh salsa in a crisp tortilla sandwich, with a side of mango lemon slaw.

Taco lovers will be happy with the BBQ Pork Tacos (P475), two soft tacos with a filling of tender pulled pork smothered with Friday’s signature BBQ sauce, accompanied by pepper jack cheese, thinly sliced crispy onions, southwestern sour cream, pico de gallo and cilantro, served with a side of thick-cut fries.

The best dish of the lot, for me, was the Ranchero Chicken Enchiladas (P495). Friday’s Tex-Mex ode to the enchilada, combining the usual corn tortilla wrap with a filling of cheese, spicy tomato sauce and melted Monterey Cheese but with the addition of slow cooked chicken breast, and to finish it off, a topping of cheddar, pico de gallo, cilantro and sour cream. Served with chorizo rice, it’s a filling, satisfying meal.
