Janine Tugonon graces magazine cover for first time
MANILA, Philippines – Miss Universe 2012 first runner-up Janine Tugonon looks sweet and sophisticated as she wears Louis Vuitton in her first magazine cover.
Tugonon appears on the cover of the swimsuit issue of Metro Magazine, which is now available in bookstores and newsstands nationwide. The beauty queen was shot on location at Bellevue Resort in Bohol by Paolo Pineda, with Yuventius Albert Kurniawan and Jerry Javier doing her makeup and hair, respectively.
She is seen wearing a white bikini underneath a yellow Louis Vuitton coverup, which is part of the brand’s Spring-Summer 2013 collection.
“I’m just happy and thankful na mayroon na akong magazine cover, and with Metro pa, ‘di ba?” Tugonon said in an interview on “[email protected]” on Thursday.
Asked why Metro chose Tugonon as its cover girl for the magazine’s first ever swimsuit issue, editor-in-chief Michealle Torres said: “Janine came fresh off her Miss Universe win, and we really wanted to showcase how she embodies the modern Filipina.”
“And in one of her interviews [published on] ABS-CBNnews.com, she actually championed the swimsuit, saying it’s a way for Filipinas to show how confident they are. And it’s perfect for our first ever swimsuit special. It was such a pleasure working with Janine,” Torres added.
Tugonon, for her part, said she now feels more comfortable in a swimsuit after she walked on the Miss Universe stage wearing one.
“Wala na [‘yung hiya]. I’ve been in pageants for quite some time, ‘di ba? And I walked on the international stage in a swimsuit. Parang ngayon, sanay na ako,” she said.
The beauty queen then gave advice to women who have second thoughts about wearing a swimsuit this summer.
“I think it’s more of pagse-set sa mind, na you got this. ‘Yung confidence mo dapat it’s innate, it’s within you,” she said.
“Dati kasi ako, I always pray before going out, so ‘pag nagpra-pray kasi ako, nase-set na ‘yung emotional and mental spirit ko. Na it’s going to be fine, you’re going to be great,” she added.
