MANILA, Philippines – Netizens turned sentimental over the weekend after it was announced that the casual eatery Rufo’s will close its Makati branch after 29 years.

Since opening in 1984 along Kalayaan Avenue, just outside what was then the International School of Manila, Rufo’s Makati has served its loyal clientele 24/7 with its famous tapsilog.

Rufo’s announced on its Facebook page that it will be transferring to the nearby A.Venue on Makati Avenue. To mark this occasion, Rufo’s said it will sell its tapa at the original price of P50 on February 28 for dine-in customers at the Makati branch.

“For almost 3 decades Rufo's (was) a 24/7 hang-out where we were free to be ourselves, in our flip flops or suit, wasted or sober, rich or broke, long-hair or skin-head. There was always something magical about this humble store that brought together people from all walks of life. All of whom were united in their single desire to down an ice cold beer with their favorite Rufo's Famous Tapa,” Rufo’s said in a note on Facebook.

“While this is indeed the end of an era, it also marks the beginning of Rufo's rapid expansion through franchising as more stores are geared to open this year. By March, a total of 12 Rufo's branches will be operational to carry on this wonderful legacy of magic and freedom that Rufo's Makati started in 1984,” it added.

“RUFO'S IS DEAD. LONG LIVE RUFO'S!!! So many 3:00am Tapsi Memories,” blogger Spanky Enriquez wrote in his Facebook page.

“I used to eat there at 3 or 4 am for many years after coming from a late night at Faces, Euphoria, Planet Mars, Giraffe, Insomnia, ABG's, 78 Orange, etc. Hahaha!” wrote Teddy Dario of 24/7 Magazine.

“Awwww... I'll miss the old site,” wrote Facebook user Patrick Everett Tadeo.

“I'm an old school customer of the original... I remember writing my name in the corner, lol! Brings back good old memories... *sigh*. Masarap talaga!!!” wrote another Facebook user Benjamin Earl Robert Bruce.
