MANILA, Philippines - Time to take out your spaghetti-strapped tops, shorts and summer dresses as temperatures in the country start to rise this month.
And if you really want to be "in" this season, make sure that these clothes are in bright colors.
Local designer Peter Lim said that lime green, orange and yellow are only some of the hues that are set to dominate fashion trends for the summer of 2011.
"For boys, we have shades of blue, wrinkle blue and other light colors," he said in an interview at ABS-CBN's Umagang Kay Ganda.
Pieces in lightweight fabric, such as cotton, linen and rayon, are also must-haves this season, according to Lim. Clothes made of polyester, no matter how fashionable they may be, should be kept in the closet, he said.
"Let's avoid polyester kasi mainit sa katawan," the fashion designer said.
For those who don't have the budget to update their wardrobe, don't fret.
Lim said it's easy to make old clothes summer-ready -- from cutting the sleeves and adding slits on T-shirts to using blouses, light scarves and ponchos as cover-ups while on the beach.
"Do it yourself lang. You don't have to spend," he said, adding, "Be creative and fun. Enjoy."
