MANILA, Philippines - Filipinos turned to the Internet last week to know more about the Azkals as they won against the Mongolia Blue Wolves in the first leg of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup last Wednesday in Bacolod City.

The football team's victory was the top news item on Google Philippines from February 4 to 10, data from the search engine showed.

The Azkals fever spread on the Internet during their match on February 9, topping Twitter's trending topics and Trendsmap.com.

They were supported by more than 18,000 Filipino fans as they faced the Mongolia Blue Wolves in the Panaad Stadium.

Aside from the Azkals, other most searched news topics on Google Philippines include Anderson Silva's victory over Vitor Belfort in UFC 126, Valentine's Day and Wikileaks.

Younghusband is top newsmaker

Phil Younghusband, one of the Azkals' most talked about players, topped the list of Google Philippines' newsmakers last week.

The Filipino-British football player asked actress Angel Locsin to be his Valentine date via Twitter, creating a stir in the microblogging world.

Unfortunately for Younghusband, the lead star of ABS-CBN's Imortal said she has work on February 14.

Still, he said he is not giving up on the actress.

Mutya Orquia, ABS-CBN's newest child star, also made it to Google Philippines' newsmakers list last week. She currently stars in a fantasy series titled Mutya, which garnered a rating of 32.6% according to Kantar Media.

Jasmine Curtis, meanwhile, caught the attention of Filipino netizens after rumors said she was spotted kissing Luis Manzano, who used to court her older sister, Anne.
