MANILA, Philippines – In the 2013 mid-term elections, it seems even hairstyles are on the line.

Navotas City Rep. Tobias Tiangco, United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) secretary general, has issued a “friendly” challenge to Senator Franklin Drilon, the campaign manager of the ruling Liberal Party (LP).

Drilon earlier said the LP’s target for the senatorial race is a 12-0 sweep.

But Tiangco believes it is an impossible feat, and he is putting his hairstyle on the line to prove it.

In a separate interview on dzMM, Drilon simply laughed at Tiangco’s challenge.

The latest pre-election survey of private pollster Pulse Asia shows that UNA has 5 candidates making it to the “Magic 12.”

They are Nancy Binay, Rep. JV Ejercito, Isabela Rep. Juan Ponce Enrile, former Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri and Senator Gregorio Honasan.

The LP bets that made the list of probable winners are Senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Aquilino Pimentel III and Antonio Trillanes IV, and former Las Piñas Rep. Cynthia Villar.

Two common candidates, Senators Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero and Loren Legarda took the top 2 spots.

The 90-day election campaign period begins on Tuesday, February 13.

According to Tiangco, UNA will hold a proclamation rally in Cebu City. Drilon, on the other hand, said LP will stage its rally in Plaza Miranda in Manila.

Drilon said President Benigno Aquino III is expected to attend the LP rally.
