MANILA, Philippines – Regal Films matriarch Lily Monteverde on Monday held the blessing of her latest business venture: the Imperial Hotel & Resort in Taal, Batangas.
Guest of honor Barangas Governor Vilma Santos cut the ceremonial ribbon.
The resort is located in Barangay Tulo and has a condo building, three villas, a swimming pool, kids’ playground, a social hall, spa and other amenities, while coconut trees dot the property.
“Not one tree was cut,” Monteverde told the Philippine Star, who reported that the film producer saw the property, which used to be a coconut groove, during a shooting of a Regal movie there.
It was Taal Vice Mayor Pong Mercado, who once worked with Regal, who negotiated the sale of the place, according to the newspaper.
In her speech, Monteverde said a key factor in her decision to open a resort in Taal is her “admiration” for Santos’s accomplishments in the province.
“Ito po ay hindi sipsip. I’ve known her since she was young. She is like a daughter to me. Our relationship goes beyond business and profession,” Monteverde said of the actress.
“I hope you enjoy your stay and promise, this won’t be our last,” she added.
Monteverde also owns the Imperial Palace Suites in Quezon City.
