MANILA, Philippines – Shopping website Multiply recently announced the three winners of its first “Origination Awards,” which recognizes the most original and and creative local products sold online.

An “all-natural” insect repellant called the Anti-Mosquito Rescue Stick by online merchant Mommy Patch was named the Most Original Mommy Management Idea. Pineapple Vinegar by a non-profit Christian organization called World Fair Trade Asia, on the other hand, was given the Most Original Gourmand Idea award.

Manila Shoe Soles, which are made from recycled tires, was recognized by Multiply as the Most Original Fashion Forward Idea.

The three merchants bested nine other finalists in their respective categories. They each received an online business package worth P200,000.

“These merchants, as well as the many others which were nominated in the Multiply Origination Awards, embody what makes the Filipino online entrepreneur one of the most dynamic and innovative in the world,” Multiply Philippines country manager Jack Madrid said in a statement.

Aside from the three grand winners, the Multiply Origination Awards also recognized two other local merchants by giving them special awards.

Soak Swimwear received the Smart Money Innovation Award for developing and marketing a figure-friendly swimwear called the Cabo Feather Maillot, while Honey Baby was given the People’s Choice Award for transforming a photo studio accessory into quirky and practical infant hats.

The entries in the first Multiply Origination Awards were reviewed by a panel of experts based on the strength and innovativeness of the product concept, as well as its perceived value and marketability.

Online votes were also considered in the judging of entries.
