MANILA – Filipinos drink more liquor on average than Americans, Germans and the Japanese, according to data from the market research firm Euromonitor.
Business news website Quartz released data from Euromonitor on Sunday which showed that South Koreans were the heaviest drinkers of hard alcohol with 13.7 shots of liquor per week on average.
They were followed by the Russians with 6.3 shots a week, with Filipinos at third place with 5.4 shots every week.
People of drinking age in Thailand down 4.5 shots a week, followed by Japan with 4.4, Bulgaria and Ukraine with 3.9, Slovakia with 3.8, and Brazil with 3.6.
Americans ranked 10th with only 3.3 shots of liquor per week on average, followed by Czech Republic and Germany (3), Finland (2.9), Venezuela (2.8), France and Spain (2.7), Ireland (2.6) and Canada (2.5).
At the bottom of the list were Egypt and Indonesia with zero.
A study released by the Department of Health in 2009 showed that Filipinos are the heaviest drinkers of alcoholic beverages in Southeast Asia.
According to a survey conducted in 2012, more Pinays drink alcohol compared to Filipino males.
