MANILA – Local box office king John Lloyd Cruz is known for his charming smile and “boy next door” looks, but a men’s magazine has opted to highlight another part of him on the cover of its newest issue.
Esquire Philippines features a painting of Cruz’s back on the cover of its February 2014 cover to show the actor’s “newfound love for art.”
A write-up on the magazine’s website said Cruz has “an impressive art collection” in his home.
“Philippine contemporary artist Nona Garcia paints an exclusive portrait of John Lloyd Cruz for Esquire’s February art issue. While many remember the actor as the matinee idol perennially pegged as the boy next door and goofball love interest, few know about Cruz’ newfound love for art,” the magazine said.
Aside from paintings of Cruz, Esquire Philippines’ Art issue also features various photographic works, 12 short stories about love in time for Valentine’s Day, and the magazine’s list of best new restaurants.
Just last year, Kapamilya star Anne Curtis appeared on a magazine cover holding a piece of white cardboard which hid her face. The cover was the magazine’s take on the popular social media campaign called the “unselfie.”
