MANILA – Pia Wurtzbach revealed that she asked President Benigno Aquino III during her courtesy visit to Malacanang about his thoughts on the question and answer portion of the Miss Universe pageant.
During the competition, Wurtzbach was asked about American military presence in the Philippines, and her answer -- that she has no problem with it -- sparked strong opinion among policymakers in the country.
Speaking to Boy Abunda at the tribute show prepared for her last Thursday, Wurtzbach shared: “He said that, ‘When you sparked the comments of the lefties, then you know you did something right.’’
According to Wurtzbach, her conversation with the President did not get “personal” because her mother was seated beside her.
Wurtzbach and Aquino were rumored to have dated her in the past.
Noting that she was just “very natural with him,” the beauty queen revealed: “I just asked him what his plans are with his 50-plus days remaining before he finishes his term, what he plans to do after, kung magpapahinga ba siya.”
In addition to that, Wurtzbach said the President also asked her about her intentions to venture into politics someday.
“Sabi niya sa akin, ‘I heard that you showed some interest in running for politics. I think you should re-think about it for five times.’ Pag-isipan ko daw ng mga limang beses pa. Ganun lang naman, very light conversation,” she said.
“I always thought that he’s a good leader with good governance. I told him that. I congratulated him for a successful term. He congratulated me [for winning] Miss Universe,” she added.
Wurtzbach was first linked to the President in 2015, way before she competed in Miss Universe. She has repeatedly denied rumors that they were dating, saying that they are only friends.
Early this month, Wurtzbach admitted that it would be difficult for her to date Aquino due to her hectic schedule, especially after winning Miss Universe.
