MANILA, Philippines -- Another Korean-style fried chicken restaurant has made its way to Manila, several months after Filipinos became fans of South Korean-based franchise BonChon and other food products inspired by the East Asian country.
4 Fingers Crispy Chicken, which was introduced in Singapore in 2009, opened its first branch at the SM North EDSA mall in Quezon City last week. The restaurant claims its fried chicken products are "hand-painted" in either soy garlic or spicy sauce, making it "crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside."
"4 Fingers Crispy Chicken combines a unique concept with great food, so I thought of bringing it to the country to share it with Filipinos who love crispy chicken wings," said Alfonso Hortaleza, president of Mindblowing Delicious Food Corp., the company that brought 4 Fingers to the country.
Aside from Korean-style fried chicken, 4 Fingers also serves side dishes and ready-to-eat food items such as kimchi coleslaw, katsu chicken sandwich, calamari and shrimp, tofu salad, and seafood rice box, among others.
The restaurant currently has four branches worldwide, including the Philippines. Jord Stefan Figee, 4 Fingers director and one of the original partners of the fried chicken joint, said they may build more stores in the country this year, as well as in Singapore and Indonesia.
"The significant growth of the Philippine food service industry in the past year and Filipinos' knack for good food are opportunities that brought us here. We also recognize the huge interest and demand for international chain stores in the country, especially those that offer non-traditional Filipino food," Figee said.
"Through social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, we want to encourage our fans to follow us and share their 4 Fingers experience with the rest of the world," he added.
