10 concerts to watch out for in 1st quarter of 2014

MANILA -- The first quarter of 2014 is packed with concerts featuring international artists that cater to any music fan's taste -- from indie, rock, rap, pop, to K-pop. Here's a quick look at what to expect from the concert scene from January through April.

1. Capital Cities: Live at Ayala Malls

Who: Composed of Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian, Capital Cities is an indie pop duo from Los Angeles best known for the hit "Safe and Sound."
When, where: January 11 at Glorietta, Makati and Alabang Town Center, Muntinlupa; January 12 TriNoma, Quezon City and Marquee Mall, Angeles City

2. Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons: Live in Manila

Who: Led by Valli and composed of Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, and Nick Massi, this American pop-rock band rose to fame in the '60s. The group's hits include "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Walk Like a Man," and "Cant' Take My Eyes Off You."
When: January 20
Where: Newport Performing Arts Theater, Pasay City

3. Phoenix: Live in Manila

Who: This alternative rock band from France is known for the hits "1901," "Lisztomania," and "Trying to Be Cool." Phoenix is composed of Thomas Mars, Deck d'Arcy, Christian Mazzalai, and Laurent Brancowitz.
When: January 21
Where: World Trade Center, Pasay City

4. Dream K-Pop Fantasy Concert 2

Who: The show billed as a "K-pop music festival" will feature acts like Super Junior-M, BTOB, Block B, A-Jax, BAP, and A-Prince.
When: February 2
Where: Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City

5. Jack Jones: A Valentine Concert

Who: The American jazz and pop singer rose to fame in '60s for his recordings of "The Impossible Dream," "Lollipops and Roses," and "Wives and Lovers."
When, where: February 13 at Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City; February 14 at Manila Hotel Tent, Manila

6. FebFest 2014: Hostess Club Manila

Who: Billed as an "indoor indie rock festival," the two-part show will feature indie bands Mogwai and Warpain on February 13, and The National and Youth Lagoon on February 20.
Where: Metrotent Convention Center, Pasig City

7. Avril Lavigne: On Tour (Live in Manila)

Who: The Canadian singer-songwriter rose to worldwide popularity in the early 2000s with consecutive hits like "Complicated," "Sk8er Boi," "I'm With You," and "Happy Ending."
When: February 17
Were: Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City

8. 7107 International Music Festival

Who: The music festival will be headlined by American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose hits include "Under the Bridge" and "Give It Away." The two-day event will also gather several other international and local acts, including: Empire of the Sun, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Natives, Up Dharma Down, Radioactive Sago Project, The Ringmaster, Yolanda Moon, Maude, Encounters with a Yeti, Musical O, Sleepwalk Circus, Hidden Nikki, Skymarines, Child/Ren of the Pilgrimage, The Charmes, Populardays, The Sleepyheads and Not Another Boyfriend.
When: February 22 and 23
Where: Global Gateway Logistics City in Clark, Pampanga

9. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis: World Tour 2014 (Live in Manila)

Who: The American duo made its music breakthrough in 2013 with back-to-back No. 1 hits "Thrift Shop" and "Can't Hold Us." The pair is nominated for seven awards at the upcoming 56th Annual Grammy Awards.
When: March 16
Where: Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City

10. Bruno Mars: The Moonshine Jungle Tour

Who: The American singer-songwriter, who is half Filipino, is behind the hits "Treasure," "Locked Out of Heaven," and "It Will Rain." He rose to fame in 2010 as a solo artist with the worldwide No. 1 singles "Just the Way You Are" and "Grenade."
When: March 22
