Meet beauty queen who replaced Schweighart as Miss PH Earth

MANILA – Kiara Giel Gregorio is the new Miss Philippines Earth 2016 following the resignation of Imelda Schweighart on Monday.

Gregorio represented the Filipino community in London last June and won Miss Philippines Air. She was born in Cabanatuan to Filipino parents, and moved to England at the age of 10.

“I should be Miss Philippines Earth because I am a dreamer with a burning passion and enthusiasm to have a look at the world beyond what my eyes can see. I see this journey not as a destination, but a mission in creating a culture of change and transformation in the lives of many,” she said in her video for Miss Philippines Earth early this year.

“Defeating climate change is an ambitious feat; however, I’ve always believed that the spirit of environmentalism and respect for Mother Earth is alive in all of us regardless of who we are and what we have,” she added.

With the Miss Earth 2016 pageant already over, Gregorio is set to fulfill the remaining obligations of Schweighart, who failed to qualify in the Top 16.

She is expected to work closely with newly crowned Miss Earth Katherine Espin of Ecuador.

Currently a law student, Gregorio has been pushing for her “One with the Earth” campaign, which mainly involves giving people skills and a better understanding of environmental issues.

She has walked the runway at fashion shows in London, showcasing the works of Filipino designers.

Prior to Miss Philippines Earth, Gregorio won Mutya ng Pilipinas United Kingdom in 2015. In the same year, she joined Miss World Philippines and ended up as a finalist.
