MANILA – Pia Wurtzbach denied that there are ongoing “camp wars” among the country's beauty queens.
Speaking on “Magandang Buhay” on Tuesday, Wurtzbach stressed that no such thing exists.
“Meron kasing dalawang big camps sa Philippines kung saan ka puwede magpa-train to be a beauty queen. May Aces & Queens kung saan galing ako, si Megan Young and Kylie Verzosa… Usually, sa Miss Universe, nagpe-place or sa Miss World," she explained.
"Yung kabilang camp, 'yung Kagandahang Flores (KF), marami din silang na-produce na beauty queens. Marami na silang na-produce na Miss Earth and Miss International. May kanya kanyang winners 'yung mga beauty camp.”
Wurtzbach said many beauty queens remain friends even if they trained at different camps.
“At the end of the day, iisang sash lang naman ang suot namin, Philippines pa rin naman. Hindi naman nakalagay kung anong camp. Ako personally marami akong kaibigan na galing sa KF. Everything is okay naman. Magkakaibigan kaming lahat,” she said.
During the Miss Universe 2017 pageant, there were allegations that Philippine bet Rachel Peters lost in the competition as a result of the country's “pageant camp wars”.
Peters trained under the Kagandahang Flores, the rival of Aces & Queens which has produced the likes of Wurtzbach, one of the judges in this year’s Miss Universe pageant.
Aside from Wurtzbach, Miss World 2013 Megan Young and Miss World Philippines 2017 Laura Lehmann, who are both from Aces & Queens as well, have already downplayed that speculation.
