MANILA – Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 Winwyn Marquez has expressed her interest in hosting, and the first person she would like to interview is a fellow beauty queen.
More specifically, she wants to talk to Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.
During her welcome party in Manila on Monday night, Marquez said she would like to show her gratitude to Wurtzbach, noting that she has helped her a lot in her journey to the Reina Hispanoamericana crown.
“First na sasabihin ko is thank you. Thank you for inspiring me not to give up,” she said.
Marquez first competed in Binibining Pilipinas – which sends representatives to Miss Universe and other international pageants – in 2015. She finished in the Top 15.
Two years later, Marquez gave pageants another try and competed in Miss World Philippines, where she won the title of Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2017. She is the first Filipina and Asian to compete – and win – in the Latina-dominated pageant.
Wurtzbach, on the other hand, is the Philippines’ third Miss Universe winner after Margie Moran in 1973 and Gloria Diaz in 1969.
Wurtzbach's story of perseverance – she competed in Bb. Pilipinas three times before getting the opportunity to represent the Philippines in Miss Universe – has inspired many beauty queens to work harder to achieve their dreams.
