Food shorts: New dishes, mooncakes, Oktoberfest

MANILA - Check out some of the latest news and promos in the local food scene.

1. Tokyo Tokyo’s Beef Gyudon Donburi 

Tokyo Tokyo had added a new dish to its lineup of donburi as part of its beef bowl series. For as low as P145, diner can now try Tokyo latest meal addition the Beef Gyudon and the Beef Pepper Donburi. Also available is the Beef Sriracha Donburi for P155.

2. Racks’ Smoked Chipotle Ribs

Racks has launched its latest dish Smoked Chipotle Ribs with a new level of smoky and spicy kicks. The spicy-barbecued falls-off-the-bone ribs are only available until November 5.

3. Plato Wraps announces 2 new flavors

In celebration of Plato Wraps’ 16th anniversary, two new exciting flavors have been added to the menu -- the Peri-Peri Latino Wrap and Crabby Rappu. These new wraps will be initially available in SM Megamall, Robinson’s Galleria, Glorietta 4, and Shangri-La Plaza.

4. Costa Coffee’s 7 new drinks

Drink or dessert? Choose no more because Costa Coffee is giving you both in a single cup. 

Seven special edition drinks have been added to its coffee collection including the Donut Latte and Double Donut Frostino for those craving for donut drinks, and the Strawberry Kiss with a fruity and refreshing kick. For those opting for traditional treats, you can have the Vanilla Latte with whipped cream on top.

5. Happy hour at Mireio Terrace

Have a luxe happy hour at Mireio Terrace of Raffles Makati for a glamorous evening of “La Vie en Rosé with a selection of wine favorites hailing from the south of France. 

Inspired by the French Riviera, the lineup of rosé mixtures include Rosé Spritz, Frosé, Aperol Spritz, Provencal Martini, Ricard Pastis Vieux Port, along with other red and white wines from the region. Wine prices start at P895.

La Vie en Rosé is available from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. until November 30.

6. Afternoon delights at Marco Polo

Delight yourself with a cup of tea, delectable scones, mini cakes, sandwiches and stunning views at the Connect Lounge in Marco Polo Ortigas from 2-6 p.m. 

Enjoy an afternoon treat with the hotel’s signature dishes and drinks, including the Earl Grape Iced Tea and Silk Road Iced Coffee, served with fresh bokum or cookie.

7. The Well Appointed Life Afternoon Tea 

In line with its commitment to art, The Peninsula Manila is holding another exciting tea experience titled "The Well Appointed Life Afternoon Tea." 

Executive pastry chef Xavier Castello and his team prepared an immersive experience inspired by colors and textures of the art installations at the hotel's third floor gallery for Salcedo Auction's "The Well Appointed Life at The Peninsula." 

This artsy tea experience is available at P995 per guest or P1,680 with a flute of champagne. It is available throughout the month of September from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

8. TWG's Lotus Jade Tea Mooncake Collection

TWG Tea narrates the story of the constellation with uts Lotus Jade Tea Mooncake Collection, a rich assortment of pastries for the Mid-Autumn Festival. 

Starting at P488, the new mooncake creations ate available in all TWG Tea boutiques nationwide until October 7.

9. Must-have mooncakes from Marriott Manila

Marriott Manila celebrates Mid-Autumn Festival with traditional mooncakes. Flavors include the white lotus that has a fragrant and sweet taste; red bean which has an earthy and lingering sweetness; and pineapple paste, which is a zesty surprise to the collection.

Price starts at P288 per piece. It is available at the Marriott Café Bakery and Man Ho Chinese Restaurant.

10. Mid-Autumn Festival at AG New World Manila Bay Hotel

Make your loved ones and colleagues feel special by gifting them hand-crafted mooncakes. Choose from a selection of flavors like red bean, red lotus, white lotus and five seeds.

You can also celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival at Li Li. From October 2-4, for a minimum of 10 persons, guests can feast on a special set menu. They can also win prozes like pastries, wine, mooncakes or gift certificates.

11. Hong Kong’s Wine & Dine Festival is back

Hong Kong, which has been as the Culinary Capital of Asia, is bringing back its Wine & Dine Festival with a four-day gastronomic party happening from October 26 to 29. 

Together with China Construction Bank (Asia), Hong Kong Tourism Board presents an exciting line up of chefs and more than 400 wine and dine booths.

12. October Beer Festival at City of Dreams 

City of Dreams Manila is holding the October Beer Festival on October 12 and 13, from 7-11 p.m. at the Grand Ballroom.

Guests can indulge in a huge selection of local and international beers, as well as a Bavarian buffet with carving stations of roasted suckling pig, German-style roast chicken, roast pork knuckle and German meatloaf; a selection of grilled sausages, braised beef paired with a variety of breads and pretzels with butter; and desserts such as Bavarian crème, Bee Sting cake, Sacher cake, Linzer cake and apple strudel.
 
There will also be live performances from Parokya ni Edgar, True Faith, and Gloc-9.

13. Sofitel, German Club present Oktoberfest 2017

German Club Manila is holding its 79th Oktoberfest at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila on October 6-7. 

With a capacity of 2,000 people, Sofitel's Harbor Garden Tent will be transformed into a traditional biergarten.

Bavarian specialties such as German sausages, pork knuckles, schnitzels, will be paired with local and international beers. You may also enjoy traditional Oktoberfest music from The Bavarian Sound Express, who flew all the way from Germany.

14. McDonald's Happy Studio App

Inspired by their iconic Happy Meals, McDonald's has recently launched the Happy Studio app, a platform that allows customers to enjoy their favorite toys and characters. 

Happy Studio is an interactive learning and play app that makes the Happy Meal experience even more enjoyable. Filled with character-themed games, the Happy Studio app is a place where kids can explore their creativity while developing useful skills.

Happy Studio is now available for download from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

15. Mommyhood 101 with Wilkins 

Wilkins Distilled Drinking Water recently hosted a group discussion involving millennial moms at the Manila House in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. 

The discussion was spearheaded by life coach Rissa Singson Kapweng, who encouraged participants to voice out not only the challenges they face but also the rewards they reap for being modern moms. 

Kapweng shared valuable motherhood tips that will help moms conquer the everyday challenges they face, as well as ensuring that their families get one of the safest drinking water in the market. 

16. Coca-Cola FEMSA Philippines supports elementary school in Taguig

On his first visit to the Philippines, Coca-Cola FEMSA corporate affairs director Jose Ramon De Jesus Martinez Alonzo made sure to do some advocacy work.

Coca-Cola FEMSA Philippines agreed to sponsor the construction of a guidance office and clinic at the Gat Andres Elementary School in Taguig. In his visit, Martinez inspected some of the facilities they donated, and interacted with some teachers and students to listen to their needs.
