DAVAO CITY - Amid martial law in Mindanao, Mayor Sara Duterte said the 2017 Kadayawan Festival was a big success.

The presidential daughter said people who witnessed this year's festivities even called it one of the best celebrations ever.

Nalipay ta nga walay negative effect," she said.

Masaya tayo dahil walang negative effect.)

Kadayawan festivities started Saturday with the street dance, Indak Indak sa Kadalanan, where 18 contingents from Davao City and neighboring provinces perform cultural dances.

Festival director Gachi Gatchalian also said they added exciting activities in Kadayawan this year to attract more tourists.

Among the new major events were the Pitik Kadayawan drum beating contest, and tribal village where tourists can visit the 11 tribal house and experience diverse culture.

Duterte thanked the Davaoeños, tourists, and the private sector for making the Kadayawan Festival possible.

"Overwhelming ang support ng private sector sa ating endeavor na maka-put up ng grand show for everybody, all Davaoeños and visitors for Kadayawan festival," she said.
