MANILA -- Here are some of the events, promos, and activities you can check out this weekend (August 11 to 13). 

1. Creative snacks from Silliman University students

Where: Robinsons Place Dumaguete

Students from Silliman University will be selling snacks at the annual Entrep Corner exhibit at Robinsons Place Dumaguete. 

This month-long retail experience will feature five student-owned companies and their specially crafted products. These include a cone-shaped bread filled with cheese macaroni, tuna, and Hawaiian flavors; deep-fried empanada-like dough infused with different fillings; a combination of the Mexican taco and adobo flakes served on soft-shell tortillas; and colorful burgers, among others. 

Robinsons Malls Entrep Corner is a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative by Robinsons Land Corporation. 

2. History Con 2017

Where: World Trade Center

History Con 2017 is returning to Manila for a bigger gathering.

Watch out for "Ride 'N Seek" host Jamie Dempsey, "Forged in
Fire" finalist and fellow Pinoy Ryu Lim, "Counting Cars" airbrush artist Horny Mike, and "Photo Face-Off" photography extraordinaire Justin Mott. 

Rick Harrison of "Pawn Stars" is also returning, with all-time favorite Danielle Colby from "The Pickers." The convention will also feature local talent, such as Phoemela Baranda and Gaby Dela Merced for "Celebrity Car Wars."

3. An Evening of Art Songs: Liederabend

When: August 13, 6 p.m. 
Where: Ayala Museum, Makati 

Soprano Andion Fernandez-Ching is set to sing in a solo recital titled "An Evening of Art Songs: Liederabend."

She is collaborating with pianist and professor Abelardo Galang ll, PhD.

The recital is presented by the Philippine Women's University (PWU) School of Music and the PWU Alumni Association in cooperation with the Ayala Museum to kick off the school's 70th anniversary celebration.
Proceeds of the concert are earmarked for a scholarship fund to assist talented but needy students of the university's School of Music. Tickets are available at the gate before concert time.

4. Green Wanderer Sustainable Travel Fair

Where: Central Square, BGC

World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines' National Youth Council and the SSI Group Inc. are holding the Green Wanderer Travel Fair, which promotes traveling, sustainability, and awareness. 

In this travel fair, they will be offering sustainable travel options—from products made by local artisans to ecotourism destinations. 

Exhibitors include El Nido Resorts, GetGo Rewards by Cebu Pacific, Skyjet Airlines, Reef PH, Lagalag, Banana Peel, The Circle Hostel, Daluyon Beach and Mountain Resort, Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA), Travel Factor, Locally PH, Green Wanderer Line, and WWF-Philippines.

5. West Side Story

Where: The Theater, Solaire 

Broadway’s "West Side Story" will be playing for a strictly limited 3-week season in Manila beginning August 10. 

"West Side Story" is inspired by Shakespeare's tumultuous love story of Romeo and Juliet, and is set amidst the vicious rivalry of
teenage gangs in 1950s New York. It has been has been produced three times on Broadway, twice in London’s West End, and enjoyed in numerous US, UK and international tours over the last 60 years.

6. MaArte at ​T​he Pen

Where: The Peninsula Manila

This August, executive pastry chef Xavier Castello and his team are launching the "MaArTEA Afternoon Tea," inspired by the scents, colors and textures of Philippine-made treasures. 

It will be featuring afternoon tea sets, including classic sampaguita macarons and jasmine tea-infused ganache tartlets; mango cheesecake pouches and caramel millefeuilles; feta-spinach sundried tomato quiches; Pamora chicken salad with celery, truffle aioli and arugula; Parma ham, olive tapenade and confit tomato sandwiches; Smoked salmon, dill cream cheese and lemon jam, and many others. 

MaArte Fair 2017 is a fundraiser organized by the Museum Foundation of the Philippines for the National Museum of the Philippines.
