MANILA - Southeast Asian ministers traded their business suits for custom-made piña barongs when they attended the Association of Southeast Asian Nations' (ASEAN) gala dinner at the Mall of Asia Arena Sunday.
Local designer JC Buendia designed the male diplomats' long-sleeved barongs with orange and brown Tinalak pattern details.
The lady foreign ministers were each given a Jeanie Goulbourn piña barong top which they paired with either black skirts or pants.
Each barong was priced at about P25,000, a Palace source told ABS-CBN News.
"Thank you for the great food and entertainment, but also for the lovely barong which is not only beautiful but also very cool," South Korean foreign minister Kang Kyung-wha told Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano at the ASEAN Plus Three Ministers Meeting a day after the gala dinner.
"It will be a great addition to my wardrobe for an increasingly hot and humid summer back home in Seoul," she added.
