MANILA -- Excited for the long weekend? In case you're not going on an out-of-town trip, here are some events in the metro that you can check out. 

1. TuTuldok by Archie Oclos 

When: June 12
Where: Kanto, Makati Square

To welcome Independence Day, Kanto Artist Run Space is holding a one-man show featuring the works of contemporary artist Archie Oclos. 

2. “KALAYAAN: 119th Independence Day Celebration”

Where: Cinema 9 of Gateway Cineplex
When: June 9, 12, 13

This Independence Day weekend, Sineng Malaya 3 will be screening critically acclaimed local films that tackles liberty and human rights. Included in the list are “Valor: The Legacy of Col. Emmanuel V. De Ocampo,” “1st Ko Si 3rd,” “Bagong Buwan,” and “Oro Plata, Mata.”

They will also be showing the hit movie "Sana Maulit Muli," starring Lea Salonga and Aga Muhlach. Tickets are sold at P200.

3. REP’s 50 Years of Telling Stories

When: June 11
Where: The Theatre at Solaire

Repertory Philippines celebrates its 50th anniversary with a one-night only grand musical at Solaire. Theater veterans Monique Wilson, Leo Martinez, Arnell Ignaci​​​​​​​​​​​​o, Joy Virata, Pinky Amador, and Miguel Faustmann will come home to REP and tell their stories in song, dance and visual history. 

4. Renaissance Art Gallery's "XIV" years 

When: June 8-20
Where: SM Megamall

Renaissance Art Gallery, one of the country's leading purveyors of non-representational art, kicks off its 14th anniversary titled "XIV." 

"XIV" features the works of Allain Hablo, Sio Montera, Josef Laureano, Pao de Guzaman, Arley Carig, Jay Ragma, Art Bermido, Aner Sebastian, Resty Tica, Rick Hernandez, and Sam Penaso. It will be curated by art critic, writer and visual artist Cid Reyes. 

5. Filipino Feast for the Senses

When: June 9-July 2
Where: Crimson Hotel Filinvest City 

Local food, drinks, and art will be showcased at the Crimson Hotel Filinvest City for the "Filipino Feast for the Senses" promotion. 

Pistahan sa Café 8 (June 9-18) features authentic Filipino cuisine from various regions, such as Vigan longganisa, chicken inasal and kilawing tuna. The lunch buffet rate per person is P1,514 nett with free flowing drinks, while the dinner buffet rate is P1,729 nett with free flowing drinks.

Chef Plaridel’s Merienda Cena at The Lobby Lounge (June 9 -15) features traditional Pinoy snacks, such mango sago, cassava cake, tres leches, turon with caramel sauce, pork mini burger with adobo glaze, kesong puti and tomato sandwich, and smoked tanigue mousse with quail eggs. Rate for two persons is P750 nett.

Meanwhile, Love Local Art: Hiraya Art Exhibit (ongoing until July 2) features creative works by talented Filipino artists -- Richard Buxani, Stephanie Cabanes, Nante Carandang, Janddie Castillo, Nelson Castillo, Nixxio Castrillo, Ovvian Castrillo-Hill, Rica Duenas, JJ Duque, Salvacion Frilles, Manuel Gamboa, Piaget Martelino, Norlie Meimban, Jevy Pagpaguitan, Jayson Muring, Sam Penaso, Vernon Perez, Pauline Racho, Alfonso Recto, Beatrix Syjuco, and Michelline Syjuco.

The exhibit focuses on the artists' expression and unique concepts that are evoked through paintings and sculptures. There will also be an art fair on July 1 and 2 for enthusiasts who are after for a more affordable art pieces.

6. Spider-Man in Manila 

When: June 10-11
Where: ABS-CBN, SM Megamall Fashion Hall, Gateway Mall in Araneta Center

Columbia Pictures is bringing the Spider-Man character to Manila.

Spiderman will drop by the ABS-CBN Compound on June 10 for a live TV guesting in the hit noontime program "It's Showtime." After which, he will proceed to the SM Megamall Fashion Hall for a meet and greet with fans.

On Sunday afternoon, Spidey will be at the Gateway Mall in Araneta Center for another meet and greet session. All these are in conjunction to the showing of "Spider-Man: Homecoming" starting on July 6.

7. Taste Food Fair at Shangri-La 

When: June 10 to 12
Where: Shangri-La Plaza 

This weekend, Shangri-La Plaza is holding a food fair that features specialty dishes, snacks, and artisanal desserts, among others. This will be hosted by mall tenants and local food merchants.

8. Hiyas Hila with PPO

When: June 11
Where: CCP Main Theater

Renowned Pinay pianist Hiyas A. Hila is set to perform with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) this Sunday at 4 p.m.

The program consists of Mozart’s works, including the overture from "Cosi Fan Tutte" and Symphony No. 41 in C major, K. 551 “Jupiter”. Hiyas will render Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.23 in A major (K.488).

Tickets are P1,000, P800, P500 and P200.

9. PHSA's 40th anniversary 

When: June 10 
Where: CCP Little Theater 

In celebration of their 40th anniversary, the Philippine High School for the Arts is presenting a multidisciplinary production titled “[email protected]: Ibarang Alumni at the Forefront of Arts Education” this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. 

Established on June 11, 1977, PHSA is the only arts-oriented secondary school in the country. It is located at the National Arts Center in Mt. Makiling, College, Los Baños, Laguna.

10. Manila Mini Maker Faire

When: June 10-11
Where: The Mind Museum, BGC

The Manila Mini Maker Faire is a free two-day event where over 50 innovators, hobbyists, and technologists converge to share their innovative projects, such as eco-friendly technologies, robots, 3D printers, and virtual reality. 

11. BGC Arts Center Festival

When: June 10-11
Where: BGC

The BGC Arts Center Festival, meanwhile, is an extravaganza of shows featuring Pinoy soul and artistry. There will be indoor and outdoor performances from musicals to street dances. 

Included in the roster of activities are a one-act play on siblinghood by Theater 2108, the Ilokano one-act play "Naameng Ak Gamin" by Dulaang ELYU, and the improv show called "Indi’sarswela" by the indefatigable SPIT.

12. Body and Spirit Festival

When: June 10-11 (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
Where: Edsa Shangri-La, Manila

In celebration of Global Wellness Day, EDSA Shangri-La, Manila presents a body and spirit festival dubbed "LIVE 2017." Included in the line-up of events are live workouts and coaching sessions, workshops by top fitness and wellness experts, live music and entertainment, as well as a total wellness market open to the public.

The activities will be conducted at the Marquee, tennis court, Health Club and pool grounds of the hotel. Special room packages are available starting at P8,000 nett, inclusive of breakfast for two at HEAT and two tickets for a day’s festival pass with lunch.
