Food shorts: Go vegan, chicken dishes, lunch specials

MANILA -- Here are some of the latest food news, promos, and offerings you might want to check out.

1. Lunch specials from Italianni's, TGI Friday's

The Bistro Group restaurants Italianni's and TGI Friday's are launching new dishes to cater to the varying tastes of their customers. 

Italianni's now serves "Best of Lunch," which features four combinations of its bestselling meats combined with garlic rice or pasta. Choose from Herb Pork Chop with Garlic Rice, Grilled Pork Skewers, Beef Stew with Aglio Olio and Beef Roast Melt. This is available from Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. in all Italianni’s branches.

Meanwhile, TGI Friday's is offering Lunch Cuts (P295), which are served on sizzling skillets. Choices include Honey Sriracha Honey Skillet, Roast Beef Skillet, Cajun Fish Skillet and Cajun Fried Chicken Skillet -- all served with rice pilaf. Lunch Cuts are available, Mondays to Fridays, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

2. Go vegan at Marriott Hotel Manila

Marriott Hotel Manila is now serving different plant-based food options for their vegan guests. Vegans can now enjoy a vegetable dinner at Cru Steakhouse. A three-course vegan menu at P1,300 consists of Chickpea Falafel, Grilled Forest Mushroom and Leeks, and Chocolate Mojito Ice Pops. 

Meanwhile, if you're looking for something sweet, try the dark and white chocolate clusters with salted pumpkin seeds at the Marriott Café Bakery available for P450 per 200g. 

The you can also order the less-sugar Mango Almond Cake, Chocolate Sensation, and Chocolate Brownie. Order a 6-inch cake for P950, 8-inch for P1,800, and 10-inch for P2,200.

3. Costa Coffee at Robinsons Galleria

Costa Coffee recently opened its flagship store at Robinsons Galleria. The 135-sqm store is the first to sport the contemporary Atlas interior, the current look and feel of Costa Coffee shops around the world.

Apart from coffee brews, the flagship store also offers the all-new frostinos (Caramel Coffee Crunch Frostino, Tiramisu Frostino, Coffee Cream Frostino), summer coolers (Watermelon Rose, Lychee Blossom, Hibiscus Strawberry Cooler) and food items (Bacon Croissant, Ham and Egg Croissant, and Pork Curry Turnover). 

4. New flavors of Shake Shake Fries

McDonald’s famous Shake Shake Fries is back, and is available in new flavors -- Creamy Truffle and Cheddar & Sour Cream.

Creamy Truffle is a rich and savory truffle flavor balanced with a hint of creamy cheese and chives, while Cheddar & Sour Cream is a tasty creamy cheddar flavor blended with a light sour cream twist. 

5. B&T Mexican Kitchen

Craving for some Mexican food? Check out B&T Mexican Kitchen at at Tuscany in McKinley Hill for a wide selection of dishes. The menu goes beyond the usual tacos and nachos, chimichangas, Mexican steaks, taquitos and flautas as it Spanish, French, American and native Aztec Indian flavors. 

B&T Mexican Kitchen allows diners to customize their meals by selecting their own meats from 10 choices for any dish. Choice meats include carne asada steak, lengua (ox tongue), barbecue, pork carnitas, calamares, carne guisado or chili con carne, chicken and chicken-jalapeño, fried fish, and deep-fried shrimp.

6. Texas-style country meals

Order your favorite meaty dishes at Texas Roadhouse for as low as P295. 

Try the Roadie’s Pork Belly, which comes with rice and mixed vegetables and the Western Roast Pork Belly. If you want beef, you can check out the Cowboy Roast Beef, Texan Pot Roast, and Andy’s Braised Beef. 

It also has chicken dishes, such as the Grilled BBQ Chicken and the Southern Fried Chicken. 

Texas Roadhouse has branches at Uptown Mall in Taguig and at the ground floor of S Maison Conrad.

7. Summer cocktail at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila

The Sapphire Road, a local concoction that makes for a perfect summer drink, is available at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila’s Vu’s Sky Bar and Lounge. 

The Sapphire Road is a refreshingly light and savory sipping mixture of beer and brandy incorporating a hint of calamansi, mint leaves and Palawan honey. It is served in a locally inspired coconut bowl, banana leaves, and dry ice. 

8. Krazy Garlik’s new entrees

Love chicken? Check out Krazy Garlik’s new chicken entrees. 

You can order the “Whoa Legs!” for only P375 each served with rice. Choose from Inasal Leg, Binagoongan Leg, or the Spice Leg. 

You can also try the “Lokal Blast” selection (P150 per order), which includes two desserts that are inspired by Filipino foodie favorites, given a krazy tweak - Ube Crema Macapuno and Buko Pie Delight.

“Whoa Legs” and “Lokal Blast” are available Monday to Thursday, from 11:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Krazy Garlik in Greenbelt 5.

9. How to make a Clever Nuts smoothie

Hurom juicers is taking their patented slow squeeze technology to create exciting recipes. 

For this Clever Nuts smoothie, prepare a cup of coconut water, a handful of whole almonds, and half a banana. 

While soaking the almonds in water, peel the banana and slice it in appropriate sizes. Then pour in coconut water and add almonds, one spoonful at a time. Finally, add banana to juicer. 

That's it! You now have a refreshing and healthy summer blend.
