1. Marco Polo Ortigas Manila has new executive chef
Executive chef Alisdair Bletcher has joined Marco Polo Ortigas Manila bringing with him over 40 years of experience in the industry. Before joining the Ortigas Center hotel, Bletcher has worked in several luxury international hotels and resorts in Maldives, Malaysia, Australia, and China, among others.
2. Yummy magazine's 10th anniversary
As part of its 10th anniversary celebration, food magazine Yummy releases a special issue that features 45 party recipes (from international dishes to the editors’ heirloom recipes), 15 tried-and-tested kitchen hacks, the staff’s all-time favorite restaurant recommendations, and a special feature on the pillars of the local culinary scene.
3. Food Tastings: Breakfast in Bread goes to Trinoma
Chefs Portia Baluyut, Pixie Sevilla and Kimberly Ann Boadilla are taking their Food Tastings: Breakfast in Bread course to Trinoma on Thursday at 4 p.m. They will be joined by Quezon City’s Kamuning Bakery, a pioneer in pugod-baked goodies since the 1930s.
Baluyut, host of Lifestyle’s “A Pinch of Portia,” will be giving tips based on her experience as chef and owner of Rustic Mornings, which is popular for its all-day breakfast. She also owns Marikina’s famous “secret” restaurant, Isabelo Garden.
Sevilla, owner of Forget Me Not Specialty Cakes, will showcase easy-to-cook breakfast noodle recipes, while Boadilla of Cafe Shibuya will also share quick breakfast dishes in a live cooking session.
Registration at the venue will start at 3 p.m. but interested parties may also register online via foodmagazine.abs-cbn.com.
4. Costa Coffee’s new latte
Costa Coffee is introducing its all-new Mocha Latte, which is available in Classic Chocolate and Coffee, Chocolate Hazelnut and Coffee, and Chocolate and Mint flavors.
You can pair these with new food items like Cream Cheese Melt, Banana Hazelnut Crossini, Ham and Cheese Croissant, Brookie (Brownie + Cookie) and Crusted Cheesecake with Chocolate Chips.
5. Enderun Colleges opens Jean-Georges Academy
Culinary school Enderun Colleges, in partnership with Placement International, launched last Monday the Jean-Georges Academy, a program designed after Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s innovative food philosophy.
Sous chef Tim Ferrell (in photo) graced the occasion by showcasing Vongerichten’s unique recipes for the attendees.
A week-long boot camp is awaiting experienced chefs, while enrollees with no prior culinary experience will undergo an intensive training program, which will prepare them for an internship in a global and diverse work environment.

6. Sofitel brings flavors of Indonesia to Spiral
Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila is flying in chef Pradipta Bayu Primaputra of Hotel Pullman Jakarta, Indonesia for a special promotion at Spiral featuring well-loved Indonesian dishes like nasi goreng and satays.
Spiral will be having Asian stations for lunch and dinner from March 1319, with rates at P2,650 nett and P3,100 nett, respectively.
